We are basing on an entirely new, modern forums engine (NodeBB) which means: speed, cool new features and active development. We hope you'll like it!
Sounds awesome. Definitely like the sound of "active development".

NodeBB
Any particular reason to dislike?
Yes, it's confusing and chaotic by default and it uses ugly webfonts. Hope you got a real good template to resolve this

Thanks for sharing your opinion!
We'll be more than happy to hear your (and everyone in the community) comments about our particular take on NodeBB when we launch. We can promise that we will take all feedback seriously and prioritize future development of Forums according to your voices. -

The forum still uses Markdown, but has buttons for formatting so that you don't have to read the Markdown guide first. Anything that can't be done in markdown (for example, underlining) won't work in the new forum.
That's good news!
Having to manually type code into your posts to get quite normal and common formatting options has always seemed to be a nonsense to me.
Very odd that Markdown can't do underlining, I would have thought that was a pretty basic formatting option.

Confusing parts to me are the multiple levels of subforums (as in Opera for Devices > Android > Opera Mini) and the matter of threading - though that latter applies to email as well. Personally I like replies in chronological order, while others prefer that replies to comments appear near the comment they are in reply to. But personal preference is just that... I haven't looked, but there is probably a setting for that.

Interesting, for me it makes the forum looks more organized.

For me it's enough to have a way to know to what the person is replying to once it's not always exactly obvious.

Actually you could post there only because you're a Moderator which has some implicit privileges
Regular users will be able only to post in specific subforums (with the exception of "Opera for computers" where we will allow to post without going into specific Windows/Linux/Mac subforum).
But the point I want to make is that the new Forums will allow us to continue to adapt to community needs - something were not able to do here - so if a particular solution does not work we might be able to change it.
