We are basing on an entirely new, modern forums engine (NodeBB) which means: speed, cool new features and active development. We hope you'll like it!

Sounds awesome. Definitely like the sound of "active development".

        NodeBB

        Any particular reason to dislike?

Yes, it's confusing and chaotic by default and it uses ugly webfonts. Hope you got a real good template to resolve this 馃槈

The forum still uses Markdown, but has buttons for formatting so that you don't have to read the Markdown guide first. Anything that can't be done in markdown (for example, underlining) won't work in the new forum.

            That's good news!
Having to manually type code into your posts to get quite normal and common formatting options has always seemed to be a nonsense to me.
Very odd that Markdown can't do underlining, I would have thought that was a pretty basic formatting option.

Hmm, how? It doesn't look confusing to me. On the contrary.

Confusing parts to me are the multiple levels of subforums (as in Opera for Devices > Android > Opera Mini) and the matter of threading - though that latter applies to email as well. Personally I like replies in chronological order, while others prefer that replies to comments appear near the comment they are in reply to. But personal preference is just that... I haven't looked, but there is probably a setting for that.

Interesting, for me it makes the forum looks more organized.

For me it's enough to have a way to know to what the person is replying to once it's not always exactly obvious.

The other thing: you can post in a forum even though it has subforums. I could post into Opera for Mobile directly, or into the Android subforum. Kind of like a directory on a disk - it can contain both files (threads) and folders (subforums).

Actually you could post there only because you're a Moderator which has some implicit privileges 馃檪

Regular users will be able only to post in specific subforums (with the exception of "Opera for computers" where we will allow to post without going into specific Windows/Linux/Mac subforum).

But the point I want to make is that the new Forums will allow us to continue to adapt to community needs - something were not able to do here - so if a particular solution does not work we might be able to change it.

Checked out a demo of NodeBB and realized I've already been using it when on https://forum.vivaldi.net.

It's pretty cool in general, but still haven't gotten used to a reply showing in two places (nested under the comment you're replying to and then as a regular comment in comment order).

Also, we've had to turn off pagination in settings because of this bug:

                            https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/18916/when-pagination-is-checked-in-settings-stuck-in-the-first-page-of-this-forum/5
                            https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/15821/possible-bug-in-forum-software-scroll-to-top-of-next-page

Not sure if it's something specific with NodeBB or just something the forum devs messed up though. It's kind of nice with pagination turned off anyway as posts lazy load.

Also, links in notification emails just take you to the post and not the specific comment.
                            https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/13478/forum-email-notifications-link-doesn-t-point-to-reply

It used to work though, so I'm thinking that might not be on NodeBB's end. Hopefully. It's something I'll be testing right away.

A quick scan of a notification email I got from our beta version of Opera Forums indeed confirm that the link points just to the discussion (reads "Click here to read the full topic") not the comment. Shame.

...but. When I click the link the Forums offers me a "click here to jump to last read post" popup. So it's kinda okay.

There is no FAQ on Linux forums, nor on Mac's.
There is no reference to Windows FAQ into *Nix / Mac forums for shared fixes.
There is no reference into Windows FAQ for OS shared fixes and the title is quite clearly:

Frequently Asked Questions (Opera for Windows)

Even, *Nix and Mac Announcements has formating problems.

There is a lack on Help organization and for the most repeated questions.

                                      User signature.

There is an option for it in user's profile.

After looking at Profile's options, can not find any option to add a signature.

I don't use Linux nor Mac so it would be kinda complicated for me to create a FAQ for those systems.

There is no reference to Windows FAQ into *Nix / Mac forums for shared fixes

I'll probably try to create one general FAQ for Opera for desktops to cover things that aren't OS specific.

After looking at Profile's options, can not find any option to add a signature.

Just a head's up: the migration will most likely start today in the late evening (UTC) and should finish by the end of next day.

During the migration this forums will be closed as read-only. When the migration is complete opening forums.opera.com will take you to the new place 馃檪
