I found out that split screen can be created by dragging a tab (option in Setting) but the behavior is quite intrusive because split screen is creating (trying) each time I drag tabs out of the tabstrip (need to be precise and remember to not move a tab too far down).
Yes, indeed. You have to drag and release fast. If you hold too long, it'll trigger split screen. I prefer to have the option off and just select 2 tabs, right-click the selection and choose "create split screen". Maybe the timing can be tweaked so one has to hold longer before it triggers split screen.

@jojo0587 according to the blog post, they provide as an example that you can move video pop-out.
It was possible all the time from my point of view, but I noticed that no additional window is created for the video popup anymore.
But... long time ago in old Opera (before the Opera's video popup was replaced with default Chromium's one) there was no extra window also if I remember it correctly. -

Everything was a little disorganized.
In my opinion it was ok, but now is disorganized.

Literally all I want is for dragging tabs in and out of tab islands not to crash the browser. Does this release fix this?

@burnout426 Select tabs + right click could stay for sure. But I'd prefer the same algorithm as in Edge - click icon on the toolbar (empty splitted area creates) and then drag tabs. Or if two tabs already selected, then click the toolbar's icon and here you're.

Amazing! I'm sure Emacs is trembling with fear of Opera replacing it as the no1 OS. Surely this update will mean that dragging and dropping tabs between windows won't crash the browser anymore, right? Or is the technology just not there yet?

I love this update! It is Awesome!
It appears that people love to complain.
I like how Opera does things much more than how Edge does things. Edge has a lot of bugs and mostly steals Opera's ideas.
Can't wait to see what Opera releases next!
Also, @leocg, I don't know what in the world @kened is talking about... I've always found you very helpful and think your behavior is perfectly normal.

Never thought that someday the Opera's PiP (which was one of the best among other browsers) will look worse than in FireFox..
*Return the habitual controls placements and remove the dimming effect on hover in the 'redesigned' PiP. And return the timing.
