To Opera Devs - Can we please have an explanation why Google.com is setting a cookie EVERY time when starting Opera, and that's before doing anything? This has only started with recent updates.
First thought is an invasion of privacy by Google?

Hi Leo, this is perhaps not forum etiquette, but all the same birthday wishes to you, and thank for keeping the forums in check, and for the expertise you often convey to Opera users. Have a good day.
As a committed Opera user since the days of v3.2 (on 3330), I would agree with user 'duyfk3n' that to auto-hide the sidebar would be terrific. In my opinion, I think the dimmed sidebar when not pinned spoils the general outlook of the start page. Users could then have the option of pinning it, or not.

@operafanuk thank you.. you are most welcome !..
Thank you to everyone for input. Opera VPN still up and running, and I'm happy for this thread to be closed. Thank you.
@l33t4opera - Hi my friend. Sorry for delay in responding.
I am happy to inform this post is via beta 68...5.
I followed your instructions, and when downloading Opera opened a brand new version (eg: no bookmarks or my beta user default settings).
However, I backed up my 67....28 profile and copied it into the new beta version (68....5) then removed the new beta profile and restarted.
Beta 68....5 then opened as normal together with all my bookmarks and settings.
Only when satisfied that all was well after 24hrs, did I remove previous beta versions - 67....28 and the problem 68....3.
I confirm all is running well and thank you for your kind assistance with my problem.
A thousand thumbs up my friend from this very long standing and loyal user
@joe232 Exactly the same with me on both systems. My ISP isn't blocking either.
@mryanmarkryan2 Great. Thank you for that and appreciated.
@l33t4opera and to Opera devs.
OS Win7 32-bit.
After updating beta to 68....3 from beta 67....28 - it will not start whatever I do.
Worse than that, I had a tonne of bookmarks on beta speeddial which I cannot find following that update (which did in fact download, but failed to restart).
I am loathed to remove both beta versions as mentioned until I can find those [important] bookmarks?
Or are they lost due to a corrupted .3 update?
What would happen if I ran the installer on beta 67...28 or 68.....3 ?
I assume the speeddial would still be intact even though I can't open either in order to update to beta 68....5?
Please note: I have beta on a capable USB with masses of space.
Also: I have not changed my beta profile.
This long standing user looks forward to any helpful suggestion please. Thank you.
@leocg Thank you Leo. My default search engine is DuckDuckGo and has been so for a long time. This has become a recent issue with present Opera updates where it wasn't happening previously!
Interestingly, Even when changing Opera default cookie setting from recommended to "Block sites from setting any data", "Google.com" still sets a cookie upon start.
Am aware Opera based upon Chromium, but surely when the user has set default settings and restarted, one should not expect this intrusive cookie to appear?
@l33t4opera
Thanks my friend. Yes, the switch had indeed auto enabled after the fact even though I previously checked - have disabled that switch.
Interestingly, when setting to max 6 columns thereafter, the most I can get is 5 columns - unless reducing zoom.
Again, this does not occur in beta or Stable. So I wonder if devs have changed the sizing of SD's in this dev update, even though mine are set to small.
Thanks for the heads up with SD pic which I've yet to look at.
@burnout426
Hi, already tried with installer, profile etc, and this only started with recent Opera updates, but I think that is coincidental.
There really is no issue with Adobe Flash v30.0.0.134 and it works well.
As I mentioned, I needed to use Flash in the first place to get to the point I'm having issues with.
I used exactly the same sett's on both machines, and also tried with USB portable, with versions 54/55/56.
All with same results except for that already mentioned above. Tried with VPN and Block Adds disabled. No change.
As I have no problems elsewhere using Adobe Flash, I'm thinking this may be an issue with the site visited itself even though they say it's not.
That said, the links are not broken because there are no issues using other browsers, including the site I have to visit, except for the two links mentioned (using Opr), and the fact other browsers show me the requested data.
Think I may try rolling backing to previous Opera version as there were no issued then.
Can't put pic up as detail is confidential. Just imagine your viewing a dark grey screen (as though the info had been redacted - if you get my meaning).
Already tried "Allow sites to run Flash". Same result.
I will try flags as mentioned (will try that from dev).
Thank you for your thoughts which are appreciated.
@burnout426 Thank you for assistance my friend.
I'll try your recommendation later.
Purely for info, I have Stable and beta running on the same Win7 machine, and until I had update issues with dev recently, had that also.
This reply via Stable on Win7.
@shat
No Opera VPN issues on Win10 or Win7 with me in UK. You didn't mention your country. Opera VPN isn't available in some countries as I understand.
@burnout426 Thanks, that's my suspicion also.
The weird thing is that nothing is blocking Stable and beta on the same machine, so I fail to understand why dev should have probs - though I'm of course fully aware dev stream is mainly in raw status.
Thanks anyway my friend.
SOLVED - Download crashes of Opera Stable 57...91 has been fixed with todays update .102 on both Win7 Pro and Win10, and updated without problem.
Thank you Opera.
@burnout426 Hi my friend, success this morning - sort of! This posted via Opera Developer
After running all maintenance prog's overnight on this Win7 machine, I tried something slightly different.
From beta version 74...42, I switched to Light theme (just in case there was a potential issue with Dark theme).
Went to Developer stream listings at https://get.geo.opera.com/pub/opera-developer/ and clicked version 74.0.3897.0 which I knew worked well on my Win7 system.
Clicked win/ then launched: Opera_Developer_74.0.3897.0_Setup.exe
No problem downloading and saving installer to my choice location - it completed download and presented the red installer icon (top right), so I clicked it as normal.
I was shortly presented with the "Opera Installer" dialogue screen, and able to fully install at last (this was the dialogue box that wasn't presenting itself previously) - hence my problem!
For the moment I put a 'stop' on auto-update.
Restarted, did my settings, imported bookmarks I previously exported, and again restarted.
I will bring Dev' up to date shortly, but it's installed.
My thanks for your earlier assistance which was much appreciated.
As to what went wrong when trying to update to Opr75, I haven't been able to identify. Thanks again.
Response requested from Opera devs on forum please?
OS Windows10 64-bit, Opera Stable 58.0.3135.127
You have updating issues from O-Menu which have been going on far too long and need fixing - DO NOT RUSH VERSIONS (because rushed versions turn into bad versions).
Since the latest Stable version 60 release, it would appear from comments made here and elsewhere that things are not going too well?
As a long standing and loyal Opera browser user, I feel I have the right to make constructive comment which I know will voice concerns of other Opera users. You once had email contact and I would have preferred to send my concerns that way.
I first started using Opera Mini v3 on mobile those many years ago, and have remained loyal to Opera ever since, gradually progressing to desktop.
I cannot update my Opera desktop browser to Stable v60, and THE LATEST UPDATE CRASHES EVERY TIME AND DOESN'T GET TO 100% (I've been trying to update since its release on 9th April, 2019). If there's an issue, take it offline until fixed, but at least put up a message saying there's an issue.
Don't leave users in the dark or users will leave Opera.
Opera has been my default browser for a very long time. This is the first time I have to seriously question changing to a different default browser as I need reliability at the Stable level.
I praised Opera so much over the years and got others using it, but have become embarrassed as my friends ditch Opera for a more reliable browser (in their view).
I've always been willing to help and wait as bugs are eliminated and fixes made, but come on guys, were talking about the Stable version here.
I don't want to mess around trying to get the Stable browser working. I do not want to again clear Opera from my system and download it over again.
NOTE: Even O-Menu recovery doesn't work properly.
In addition, when is Opera going to fix the speeddial please (my example below).

For Opera devs please?
OS = Windows 7, 32-bit (no problems with machine).
I recently removed Opera developer stream from my Win7 machine due to issues updating it.
It would appear there is an issue with the installer for developer stream using Win7, 32-bit?
Dev stream will download, but try as I might, I can't install it on Win7, and when double clicking the downloaded developer file, it wont throw up the install dialogue box.
To prove my procedure was correct, I downloaded Opera developer from the official Opera site onto another machine using OS Win10, 64-bit.
No problems installing, and the install dialogue box presented itself as expected.
So, will Opera Devs please confirm if there is an installer issue for Win7 on developer stream?
"Yes" or "No" will be sufficient - Thank you.
I again followed the procedure on Win7 as I did on Win10, but still no luck after days of trying.
@anonan
I agree the colour is vile. Seems to me that Opera should allow users the choice to change colour. This awful colour is 'imposed' upon Opera users.
@jito463 Suggestion. I've found Opera browser sometimes 'remembers' things you don't want or have changed.
You don't mention it, but if you're using the same shortcut on desktop, I would would be inclined to delete it, and unpin the taskbar icon you don't want.
Then go to your Opera folder, right click the Launcher, sending a new shortcut to desktop (it should only sit on taskbar and/or desktop if you make it so).
Don't forget to restart before doing anything else. Hope this helps.
