Allow disabling of default search engine hotkeys

you have this problem because you cannot Edit "opera://settings/searchEngines" like chrome.
Opera has "Make Default" only when you click on three dots. -

@viewer2012 My problem isn't with setting a default search engine, it's not being able to turn off the hotkey shortcuts for the other default engines that are integrated into the browser. Typing a b for instance forces the search to go through Bing even though Google is set as my default search engine. That's why I'm asking for a way to disable those hotkeys to be added. I hope this cleared things up.

@nakina i know about your problem. if opera has "Edit" feature on three dots like chrome, you need change "b" Keyword to "bing.com" for example like chrome:
if you type "B Positive", you find results about it in google, but if you type "Bing.com B Positive", you find Bing results.
chrome has "remove from list" too if you want disable another search engines. -

@viewer2012 The whole point of this post is so I can have the option to do exactly that. The default search engines that are included with opera cannot be edited like that currently. You can only edit hotkeys for ones that you add yourself.

@nakina Just ignore @viewer2012 If he can't be bothered to read the original post then he has nothing to add.

@sgunhouse you're wrong. there was another typic for this, but it was about request help not request feature:
link text
(From 2018)
my mistake was about Request feature (Nakina's post) and Request help (like bug-feature's post).
but my post added viewers to this request at least. -

Hi, I just ran into this same issue.
How the hell has this still not been fixed.
Putting it to "tab" instead of "tab and space" also doesn't remove the functionality with space, which is really annoying. -

I know it's super annoying to have old posts being bumped; but this feature has been driving me up a wall.
The inability to remove unnecessary search shortcuts is so painful. There will never be a time where I will search something on Amazon through my Opera search bar instead of Amazon's search bar on their website. I'd love to be able to remove it.
Opera always allows so many customization options, so it's so weird that this is one of the very view things you can't adjust within your browser - and it's a thing that causes a huge inconvenience. (At least on my end.)
As stated before, switching it to "tab" instead of "tab and space" does nothing. It's useless. If nothing else, have that be functional to some degree? So it has to be an intentional effort to search with the shortcut feature, instead of being forced onto me?

It seems that you are facing with default search engine hotkeys can be frustrating and disruptive to your browsing experience.you are using Opera GX and having difficulty searching for a specific show due to the hotkeys automatically switching search engine to Bing and deleting the letter "B" from search query.
One potential solution could be to disable or customize the default search engine hotkeys.
Another potential solution could be to offer a setting that allows to choose default search engine, which could prevent the browser from automatically switching to a different search engine when the user types in a specific search query.

@gbws You cannot delete the default search engines, or edit them or their hotkeys in any way. This was added to Opera a long while ago, and I assume it has to do with paid deals with these brands, since it would otherwise make little sense to enforce it. Though it could also be a unified user experience choice. Either way, I have a feeling that Opera won't change this.
I have two workarounds for the issue:
- Use the keyword for your default search engine in these instances. E.g. "g b positive"
- Type out your search (e.g. "b positive"), then press tab or arrow keys to select your default search engine (should be the second option).
None of these will fix the annoyance of having a shortcut to a search engine that you don't want to use, but will allow you to search without going to the main page of the search engine first.

This is an easy fix to. All the dev. team would need to do is to add a toggle switch like they do for most other settings.

2 years later and the problem still hasn't been fixed, this is ridiculous.

@pheonixflame2130 I just tried "b positive" (including quotes) with DuckDuckGo as default and it did a DuckDuckGo search. Also works with Google as default. In fact, I think you only need the start quote.
Anyway, that's the workaround until Opera decides to allow editability in this area.

@pheonixflame2130 It's not a bug that needs to be fixed, but a suggestion/request that may or may not be accepted.

I am amazed this has been requested for more than two years already and devs still think that not being able to disable this simple feature is a great addition to the browser. I have to search through Google's website because I am a Pole and a good chunk of my queries start from the "w" word. Is promoting Xzibit really much more profitable than answering people's requests?

I disagree, this is the most annoying browser behavior if you're coming from somewhere else. At the very least, I want the ability to reassign the keys, for example Y should be Youtube not Yahoo.

@vitalityventures Even though, there is nothing to be fixed since it was designed to work that way.
If, one day, Opera will accept the requests to change the behavior and allow modifying or disable the search engines triggers, only time will tell.

Okay, I'm trying to search "z score tables" online and am getting redirected to Amazon. Why on earth would there not be a setting to either disable the hotkeys, or change them? What genius implemented this feature, I must know, as with money comes stupidity.
Either way, this should be moved as a bug, since the "Space and Tab" and "Tab" feature is busted. Absolutely frustrating to deal with, and having nothing done over however many years since this has first been mentioned in any thread.
