@leocg such direct answer would be more than acceptable.

@pilis00 said in Opera 120.0.5516.0 developer update:

If they keep support only for uBO it would be godly

Don't be naive. If they have their own ad blocker which they praise, there's no reason for them to keep some other 3rd party blocker exclusively.

@andrew84 Brave does the same thing with their shields too.
          And they keep uBO.

@pilis00 They (Brave) promise to support after 138? I think it's pointless to speculate now. When 138 comes, then it'll be clear. And nobody knows what efforts Chrome will be making to complicate the possible support.

              @andrew84 Yes.
              https://brave.com/blog/brave-shields-manifest-v3/

For as long as we’re able (and assuming the cooperation of the extension authors), Brave will continue to support some privacy-relevant MV2 extensions—specifically AdGuard, NoScript, uBlock Origin, and uMatrix.

@pilis00 Since Opera has its own adblocker, I don't think that they will make too much effort to keep support for adblocker extensions.

@leocg then in that case I hope they didn't write in vain that article about MV2 a few months ago.

@pilis00 Basically the same thing that Opera said back on that article.

If support for Manifest V2 will continue depends on how difficult it will be to keep that support.

@leocg probably in that case they should have directly said "Ok, we'll continue supporting MV2", or "No,we won't support MV2 addons anymore but we'll strengthen up our adblocker."

@pilis00 The article clearly says that they will try to keep support for Manifest V2, but that things may change depending on if keeping that support will bring too much issues.

@leocg I honestly don't want them to support MV2 for every single addon that didn't switch to MV3 yet.

Only for uBO if they do, it's enough. As how Brave does.

@pilis00 The problem that they can't answer what they don't know yet.

Only when a version of Chromium with support for Manifest V2 dropped is related they will be able to check if keeping the support will be easy or if it will have a big possibility of causing issues.

And even if keeping the support is easy at that moment, things may be different when a newer version of Chromium is released.

Unfortunately if Opera won't give an update on this, and I'll see them dropping uBO in June, I'll very likely have to switch to another browser again.

I switched to Opera back in December after Chrome deactivated uBO, and I found Opera is among the browsers that "plan" to say that now, as they didn't really confirm, to keep uBO.

I can confirm the exit full screen bug when using F11.
Here it happens in both Stable and Developer on Win10x64.

There's again some awful animation for speed dial tiles.
When creating new tab happens randomly, sometimes no animation, sometimes flashy animation, sometimes tiles are increasing more or less smoothly.
Clicking 'refresh' while on SD page also looks ugly, background flashes, tiles are flashing also.

*Some time ago the animation was hidden under flag, later the both flag and animation disappeared, I thought it become clear that there's no need for such animation. But now it's back again (in addition to the complained bouncing tiles opening animation). I have an unhealthy interest how long the mockery will continue.

@pilis00: Thanks for reaching out and sharing your concerns. We understand how important uBlock Origin is for many of our users. While we can't guarantee indefinite support for it, I can assure you that we plan to support uBlock Origin for as long as it's feasible. In the meantime, we recommend trying out Opera's built-in ad blocker as an alternative, which might meet your needs. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out!
