@arodi007 said in Opera 117.0.5408.163 Stable update:

Opera has way fewer employees than Chrome

But continue releasing dedicated versions instead of concentrating on the flagship browser.

@andrew84 Opera doesn’t have to maintain Chromium.

@DerSchlingel Who say Opera must maintain Chromium?
If there were less browsers in development, then the bigger chances the browser is up to date and its features are coordinated with new Chromium updates.
We have 3 browser now Desktop, GX, Air + dead Crypto browser.

@andrew84 Yes, I understand. Even small Vivaldi team isn’t that much behind.

@genegold: Thanks for the update! One thing to check is your site permissions - when you're on Epic/MyChart in Opera, click the lock icon in the address bar and make sure both the camera and microphone are set to "Allow." If the issue continues, feel free to reach out.

@deathcat: Hello! The latest Chromium version is always available in the Developer build. Updating to a new version in the stable release takes time because our developers need to integrate Opera’s custom features and ensure everything works smoothly. After that, as a QA team, we rigorously tests each update to check for bugs, security issues, and compatibility with various sites and extensions. This process helps us deliver a stable and reliable experience rather than rushing an update that might cause problems. We appreciate your patience and feedback!

@daria19: Why not Ask? That's what works with everything else.

@daria19 On the developer channel, the version of chromium has not been updated for the second month and is stuck on beta version 133, although there is already a final 135. I repeat, instead of breeding dozens of browsers, they should have done one normal one. And you already answered this, about how thoroughly the functions are tested, only there are more and more bugs and it is not clear whether you are on the stable channel or on the beta/dev.

@deathcat TBH they were already behind latest Chromium versions before when there was no GX or Air.
I suppose, it's like @daria19 pointed out: Opera's features and UI modifications are the main reason for the delay. They have to adopt their modifications to Chromium in order to work.

Brave doesn't tweak Chromium's rsp Chrome's UI that much. So, they are very much on par. Same goes with Edge. Although I'm no expert on this, I would suppose that this is the main reason.

Vivaldi also slips every second Chromium versions and sticks with a LTS version due two their own tweaking.

For me I'd say: As long as Opera performs well enough with no speed or compatibility issues, I wouldn't mind. Another factor may be security. We're reassured time and again by Opera team that this delay doesn't pose any security issue because urgent security fixes are backported. Again, I'm no expert, I just have to rely.

In sum: It's up to us to decide whether we want to accept and live with Opera being behind. If not, the surest way would be to switch to another browser like Brave, Edge or maybe Vivaldi. Or simply stick with Chrome or Firefox that always use the latest version of their rendering engines.
Opera gives me some neat features I won't get otherwise, so I'll keep it around as my go-to.

@daria19 @marinaz909 do you have any idea why, when I close the browser, the browser's background becomes black for half-a-second? I attached a GIF, in slowmotion to better notice it.

                        Is this a known issue?
