Hello,

I'm trying to install the Opera VPN Pro client on my Windows machine, but the installation fails with an error. I get the following message:

"Service 'Opera VPN Pro Service' (VPNProService) failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start system services."

Then, when I check the Windows Services, trying to start it manually gives me this:

"Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."

I had previously deleted the VPN connection manually from the Windows VPN settings because the VPN wasn’t connecting properly. I'm wondering if that could be related.

I’ve already tried:

Running the installer as administrator

Checking services (services.msc)

Attempting to delete the service using sc delete VPNProService

Rebooting and doing a clean reinstall

Nothing seems to help.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Installer doesn't allow deselection of options to 'Help improve Opera by sending feature usage information' and 'Make Opera the Default Browser'. The checkboxes are un-de-selelectable. One caveat: I am running it on macOS26 beta, so this could be a beta OS issue, but I've seen others have similar problems with earlier OSs.

If Opera want to restrict these checkboxes, then they shouldn't be listed as 'options', because they're not. They're already hidden behind a dropdown in the installer. I feel that's a bit of a dark pattern, too. Maybe time to go back to Firefox or even Safari.

No worries, it can be a bit confusing! In Opera’s settings under Block Ads > Manage Lists > Other Lists, turning the Malware Block switch ON will actually enable the malware protection feature, helping to block harmful sites. So if you want that extra layer of security, keep the switch ON!

@minecraftman6772 The stuff you mention is mostly features of Opera GX, which suggests that you downloaded Opera's other desktop browser (officially Opera One, but usually just called Opera Stable or Opera). Go back to the website and look for Opera GX or "Opera's gaming browser". Or click https://www.opera.com/gx

@jezduig Maybe you dont use the same transaction network like er20, tr20 ,bep20 etc go confirm, if the network differs , oit may result in loss of account. you can ask from fb page of opera

I've been having this for 1 year now. I have tried starting program with flag mentioned. Sadly this is not working. Most of my 15 plugins are disabled, the enabled ones are up to date. Also Opera is up to date. Neverthless, this message should be allowed to be disabled because what if user doesn't want to update. Huge deal breaker for me as this is really annoying with 14" laptop when using it when traveling. Bye Opera 😞
