  It's really frustrating as the android app is great and sees constant improvements.
  Actually there was an one year gap between the previous Android Opera Mini release and the current one. Just saying...

  How did you start microemulator?

  Do you have the latest jar file of Opera Mini?

  Go to http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/versions/ select your Opera Mini version, hitw View Downloalink, download opera-mini-latest-advanced-en.jad and opera-mini-latest-advanced-en.jar.

  May be you will use http://mini.opera.com/download-7/opera-mini-latest-advanced-en.jad?no_redir&ismobile=false and http://mini.opera.com/download-7/opera-mini-latest-advanced-en.jar?no_redir&ismobile=false for latest Opera Mini 8.

  On my emu only 7.1 worked.

  Did you store the opera-mini-7.1.32052-advanced-en.jar and ...jad (or newer) into microemulator's subfolder /apps?

  In Shell with java -jar microemulator.jar After start of micromeulator select File -> Open Midlet file Select opera-mini-7.1.32052-advanced-en.jar Select Start in Opera Mini emulated phone Opera Mini should start now

  Please kill ww tag https redirection and retrieve the old classic view, Opera Mini doesn't load google in a frame anyway. Test "wctmb" keyword result w3.org link but with https prefix which is wrong.

  Mini is a different sort of browser: it's a thin client that displays what the Opera Mini server prepares. When you enter a URL in Mini, the Mini client sends the request to Opera Central. An Opera server visits the public page, and does all the heavy lifting there. Opera Central then creates and sends back a page view built for your device. The Mini client displays that page.

  It's a trade-off. It saves both bandwidth and processing power (the full page read and script processing gets done by an Opera server), but it also means Mini can't display most multimedia. On my iphone, it'll usually redirect youtube vids to my youtube app. But Mini won't render HTML5 or Flash or even animated GIFs directly within the Mini app.

  The main reason for this delay must be related with 'httpping' feature from server's header but the real slowness appears within jan-feb this year. Httpping obviously is not related with Opera Mini development since is hard to find a mini server with port 80 open (8081 is always open but not for ping-pong), instead it has something to do with ISP gateways behaviour as secondary (bad) behaviour. Most likely this 'ping' mask all open ports for debug consoles (run on latest line of products) running only on devs play field.

  Modern mobiles can handle anything desktops can - except Flash I guess. I certainly don't want to see mobile sites on my Android tablet ...

  Moved to Opera Mini forum, where someone might actually know if there's an "Identify as" setting for Mini.
