It seems that this is an intermittent issue that happens while the page is still being loaded - in that case you will sometimes see the default link context menu. If you wait a little bit more until the page is fully loaded you should see the "correct" context menu, with "Open in New Tab" on top.
But it's just a workaround. I guess we'll have to investigate this problem and make the context menu work as expected in all conditions.
A followup for anyone who might have similar problems: On advice from my bug track report, I deleted and reinstalled Mini from my iphone. That seems to have cleared the problem. I did lose my speed dial shortcuts, but my other bookmarks remained.

Million dollar question is, why when downloaded from the Nokia app store, run in Opera, do we get the unsigned version?!?
At the moment it's not possible to change default browser, however if you have iOS 8, you can easily open pages in Opera Mini, by using Share from other apps (including Safari). There should be Open in Opera Mini action which will open current site in Opera Mini. You may need to click "More", to enable this action.
