You are kinda lucky.
A friend of mine had an account at bet365 so I asked him to use my opera, log in there and try playing a live stream.
As it seems, all its live streams are in h264, thus they do not play in stock opera, and there is no fallback option for flash, thus having flash installed or not makes no difference. So all I have said at the other thread about opera's poor html5 support apply for your sites and distro as well.

It seems it is not doable in opera. Oddly, chromium can do what you mention and it even uses the same keyboard shortcuts as ff.

One thing at a time...
For the installation part, you could just download opera's deb file, install it like usual by double clicking it and let dpkg do all that work for you 😉 Keep that in mind for next time you will need to install it fresh. The missing o-menu button is a known bug that only affects unity users as it seems. Does it open when you press alt though? If you really want to install an older version of opera, find its deb from here (go to "version number"/linux/ subfolder) and install it by hand.

It seems to be intermittent. I'm not sure what triggers the fault. A site's menu might work fine the first few pages then suddenly the secondary nav tabs become non clickable.

I work with a lot of websites where I have to test each one's UX so I get to see this fault frequently.

This might be a related issue. Some sites lose keyboard page scroll functionality midway through a session. Again, it is an intermittent bug. The up and down arrow keys will work great for a couple of pages within a site then suddenly cease to function in their up/down scroll capacity. Scroll bar functionality continues to work. Mouse wheel continues to work. Keyboard up/down arrow keys cease to function. Keyboard otherwise works fine.

On MX Linux, you should install libpam-gnome-keyring if you don't have it.
It automatically unlocks the default keyring for desktop apps upon system sign in.

Wow, I came here looking for a solution to remove the close, minimize and maximize buttons, the whole lot.

Running Debian on Xfce here, and the three buttons in the updated version of Opera get in the way of all the tabs I have.

Would be really nice if there was a way to remove the buttons (an option in settings perhaps), there are users on Linux that never use them anyway.

I know it's an old thread, but hey.....

For me, two solutions are working:
1 - For MAXIMIZED window edit Opera launcher -->right click on icon/ Properties/Application tab/ field Command: opera %U --start-maximized
2 - For CUSTOM window size edit Opera launcher -->right click on icon/ Properties/Application tab/ field Command: opera --window-position=118,64 --window-size=1682,951 %U
That sizes are actual settings for my desktop.

I'm on KDE Neon (Bionic 18.04), Opera 56.0.3051.31

There have been at least 2 threads since the release of opera 55 that the issue is discussed. In short, we named in "the ugly csd and its side effects" 😛

In other words, what you now see when right clicking is a menu made by opera, not the menu of your window manager, because opera uses its own buttons for minimize/maximize/close.

p.s. Opera was updated to v56 today and the issue remains unsolved, so it will probably bug us all for some time.

Because some formats like h264 are not royalty free and opera does not have the licence to use them. If you don't mind, please search my messages on what other major browsers do so as to play these formats.

For the distros you use, ubuntu builds chromium ffmpeg codecs with h264 support and opera devs make opera look for that "better version" of libffmpeg.
For arch, which does not build chromium ffmpeg codecs at all, some guy out there compiles the entire 500+mb source package of chrome and makes his own libffmpeg with support for all formats, names it opera ffmpeg codecs and puts it in his repo.

By the way, the opera ffmpeg codecs package was removed from the "blackeagle-pre-community" section of the repo, probably because it will be moved to the "herecura" one.

In order to auto scroll with middle click on opera (and on all chromium based browsers) under linux, you must have an autoscroll extension installed.

I have been using this one for like ~8 years and I am happy with it so far

The reason is simple. Knowing that middle click can also paste clipboard contents, chromium (= the browser's engine) uses it for that purpose only, disabling autoscroll. And this has been the case since the very first release of chrome in linux, back in 2009.
