Flash is almost dead. I don't even see a reason to install it nowadays.
Same can be said for opera browser.

Did you check the sites I've provided as a link? Why not?
You should do this now.
Do you think Opera VPN works?
@leocg said in Is Opera's VPN reliable?:
@heinrich627 Regarding the search engines, look at the VPN section in settings page.
I have deleted /home/user/.config/opera. This gives me a new profile when I start up Opera-browser.
I have enabled VPN, opera ad-blocker and 'hardened' privacy settings as much as I can.
I further added security extensions.
The new profile has no browsing or settings history.
When I go to time.is - the site does not know my geolocation be cause Javascript is turned off.
But when I use qwant and enter a single word (e.g shoes/shirt/laptop) - the search engine gives results of retailers in my geolocation.
This is with VPN on, ad-blocker on, Javascript off, security extensions on, private window opened and a lot of settings disabled.
The opera browsers VPN does not work.
Opera cannot even afford the H264 licence.
It has 2% market share for PCs.
It's code is a fork of open source Chromium.
Opera seems to be for die-hard fanboys who have no clue about security and anonymity.
Back to Firefox. The free VPN scam - which is also offered by free addons - is just too much.
I have read the FAQ section of this forum.
It is very useful.
Basically it is saying we should install Adobe Flash Player onto our linux distros to watch video with Opera browser.
The problem is Richard Stallman said Adobe Flash is spyware.
Is it possible to watch video without Adobe Flash? For example thru H264 format?
After enabling Opera's VPN, If I go to whatismybrowser.com it shows Opera's ip address instead of my own ip address.
But if I use Qwant search engine - it's search results shows it knows my geolocation.
Also, if I go to time.is to find out the time - that site also knows my geolocation.
So why does the VPN not work for those sites?
And I'm guessing Opera's VPN definitely doesn't work for Youtube.
@leocg Thank you for the link.
This is my take on the link:
So Opera waits for Ubuntu (who has a H264 licence) to upgrade the H264 video format.
Opera can then use Ubuntu's upgrade and people can then watch video on Opera.
This seems to be the same as point 1 above - except you're not waiting for Opera to wait for Ubuntu to do the upgrade.
You're installing the upgrade from separate licence-holders.
Can someone confirm this interpretation? Someone who has read the long thread on the link provided? Someone who understands they should not provide a link in their answer? Even as a joke?
@jimunderscorep said in Why don't any websites other than youtube work?:
Because they can not provide h264 support (most videos are encoded in h264 nowadays) due to legal reasons. H264 is a proprietary format and you need a licence to use it in your app, in general.
Yes, but sgunhouse has said on my thread (about the same issue):
' look on your distro's software installer for an appropriate version of the Chromium codecs package - and also recently the widevine content decryption module. If you install both of those, Opera should work'.
So this suggests it's not a licensing issue - instead it's about installing codecs from your distros repository. This seems like a more plausible answer.
Not being able to watch video is a deal breaker.
Is there anyway of getting someone from Opera to explain what is going on?
Currently i can watch Youtube on Opera.
But if I want to stream movies from a movie website or watch Twitch - it just gives an error message.
I can't find free and open-source media players as plugins for Opera?
There doesn't seem to be a built-in media player on Opera.
The add-ons tab shows I need to go to Adobe Flash player website and download their player.
