Solved. I installed Opera on Ubuntu with Snap. Downloading with snap, in font settings, (I wonder why) you can't see the "custom" option in drop-down menu. So I reinstalled Opera through Opera's web site as .deb file. now, I can see "custom" option.

in a word: don't download Opera with Snap. Download Opera through it's own website as .deb or .tar.gz

This must by far be the most useless change ever!!
I makes my tabs go "micro" sized because i use the whole tab bar when surfing. Not a nice surprise.
And i have found no way to change it sitting on Ubuntu 18 and Opera 55.
And the fact that the HTML% needs to be redone every time there is an upgrade to the browser. As of this update i cant even play games on FB .
I need ti switch browser if this doesn't go away in a hurry. 😞

Every flavor of the Mint-X theme causes it apparently, which is a little frustrating but I can adjust.

It's probably because the site identifies the browser as a mobile one, thus it returns the mobile version of the page. Grab a user agent switcher extension from addons.opera.com, install it and switch the user agent to chrome or firefox to check.

p.s. Bbc news is displayed properly here.

What happens when you press the ALT key? At least on Windows systems the menu will pop up, maybe this will bring back the Opera menu icon too on your system.

There is no ppa for opera, for a couple of reasons. First, opera has its own repo, which is this, and it has been around since I remember using opera

deb http://deb.opera.com/opera/ stable non-free

Second, opera is closed source and launchpad (home of all those ppas) only hosts open source projects.

Finally, when you install opera from its deb file, apt also installs its repo and the key for it, so there is no need for the user to do anything more in order to update opera.
