I'm finding it very good, but is there some way to turn it on and not have that little annoying 'lucid mode on' icon keep flashing on the screen?

I get it about needing making sure one notices the first time, but is there some setting or flag to make it stop?

Other browsers (both Chromium based and Firefox) automatically picked this up automatically when installed on a windows system that already has any flavor of Kaspersky anti-virus.

But Opera did not do this for me.

Am I doing something wrong? Or is it not supported? Or do I need to do something else? It's not a deal killer, but I'd like to have it if possible.

FWIW, Kaspersky flags Opera as a trusted application.

A little fiddling and I find the little icon goes away when you go full screen. Well that's something.

I already prohibit Kaspersky from updating any non-K software, so that's in order.

My solution to this sort of problem is to use CCleaner.

The problem or something like it exists on all Chromium based browsers, each of which clears on exit slightly differently.

With CCleaner and careful tweaking (do not just check all boxes) you can get it to clear however you want. You can even spare certain cookies while clearing the rest,

I have added a number of search engines in addition to the out of the box defaults. It's pretty much the same drill as for any other Chromium based browser, except ...

1. What does "use post" mean. I have ignored that checkbox and all works OK, but I'd like to know for future reference.

2. Is is possible to make one of the search engines I added into the default? The option exists on the little drop down menu, but it won't take it when I click.

3. Is it possible to delete a default search engine?

Is it possible to synchronize Opera with anything other than Opera?

Preferably, any Chromium bade browser?
Just an idea I had to speed up switching to Opera.

There is an offline flash substitute. Not a browser plug in.
Caution: It does have security issues.

I wish to stress that I'm not a N00b when it comes to VPNs in general (on the job), but I never used them for web browsing. So no need to avoid getting technical.

First of all, I just want to say that I really love this feature, but I still have some questions.

1. I note that some websites can tell I'm using a VPN. I'm guessing it's due to the Opera IP addresses being well known. Is that correct, or is there some way they tell directly?

There is this website ==> https://whatismyipaddress.com

It tells your IP address location according to the HQ of your (notional) ISP, and and one click away from the actual server location and other information about your connection. It does both IP4 and IP6, and appears to give correct information when I use it without the VPN.

With the VPN enabled, it gives me locations that do not correlate with the selected virtual location.

2. Why is this?

Usually it shows a location Cameroon, and yet Africa is not on the virtual location list.

3. Why are Africa and Australia not on the list? Is the reason governmental or technical?

4. Is there any significant difference in Opera VPN behavior when done in a private window?

I'm currently in the process of switching to Opera and want to be setting up some non-default shortcuts.

Do Chrome command line parms work for Opera?
Or otherwise what are the command line parms?

Generically it displays the URL on a colored background, but some well known sites have some sort of avatar or branding graphic.

1. Are these stored locally within Opera or do they propagate from the sites (as it might be like favicons)?

2. Is there some way to install non-standard ones, particularly for sites that do not have them?

Just checked for update. All is up to date.

My first reaction was that I liked it, but apply it to a YouTube video and then go full screen, the picture lags behind the video just enough to be annoying.

1. Browsing with the VPN turned on.
2. Get an error page "This site can't be reached".
3. A few seconds later with me doing nothing, the error page gives way to the site (being correctly reached).

A minor annoyance, but I'd like to understand what's going on.

I have more than once had Kaspersky interrupt loading a dodgy page on Opera. Really that's all I need.

However it's true it doesn't have the full functionality it does on Firefox. That is, to report bad sites etc.
