since one or two versions opera gx crashes and opens again immediately.
I'm using version LVL3 (core: 79.0.4143.73). I have already uninstalled it and deleted the profile and cache folder.
I've even gone a step further and reinstalled my Windows. Nothing seems to help.
I cannot intentionally reproduce the crash and I also don't see a time pattern. It does not matter whether I have installed add-ons or not, or whether I am logged into the browser or not.
All I have after a crash is a new entry in the event view "DistributedCOM" Event ID 10016
'Due to the authorization settings for 'Application-specific', the user '[...]' at the address 'LocalHost (using LRPC)' does not have authorization of the type 'Local Activation' for the COM server application with the CLSID
and the APPID
Granted 'Not Available' (SID: Not Available) in the application container. The security privilege can be changed using the component services administration tool.'
@jonathan-zuntz maybe also, ensure no other resident program or tools or window are using internet. Even other browser's window, music players, chat or videos, sync apps, advertising videos on browser windows, anything. You could close all browser tabs then reboot system, then close all tray icons and any resident programs, then retry the download. Before to begin download, check the band that the browser can access, for instance on speedof.me site.
If after all this is not enough, maybe you should optimize registry settings for internet, but don't use third tools, only use Siv (system Info viewer by Ray Hincliffe) and in menu Tune - Windows, go to page User tuning (increase a bit the "max connections" values - normal and max - if they are 1 or too low under the max limit). If this is not working enough again, there are other settings but they are slight dangerous, easy to go worst than better, they require study.
Also Microsoft tool to solve connection problems, could help well.
I’ve been using Opera for ages. I can boldly assume that I could be one of the most faithful users who have never changed it for any other browsers. However, these days I was seriously considering doing so.
Why, you might ask. Well, this is the problem. When I turn my laptop on and open Opera, it crashes. I then need to force close it in Task Manager and restart it. Only when I force close it for the third or fourth time does it manage to open properly. Furthermore, the pages seem to load slowlier than ever. In fact, it takes an eternity until the page is completely loaded. Not to mention if there are some “heavier” images or videos.
As I have been working from home for almost a year and a half, I’ve been forced to install another browser for work. It was a tough decision to make, but I simply had to since it started to affect my productivity. Yet, I’m still using it for personal browsing despite all the issues. But what happened recently might definitely make me ditch Opera for good.
Two days ago, I tried to open an online casino which I had been visiting without any issues until then. Opera simply crashed. I tried to open it again, still nothing. Then again, but without any success. It was as if it had died. Then I attempted to open all three of these [https://terminatorx.cx/new-online-casinos-launched-in-2020/] (in case my old one is outdated or something like that) but to no avail. It was like trying to bring a stone to life.
Can anyone please explain what has been going on here? I’m slowly starting to lose my nerves and patience, it’s just a matter of time when I will stop using the browser I used to be a huge fan of.
After years of using Ope rI am finally giving up. It has often had glitches and can be temperamental, but it was good. Now it selects at random which website I can visit or not.
' Your connection is not private ' and refuses to allow me to visit even when I overrule it. These are sites I use daily ! And well known sites. This is ridiculous .No way to make contact with Opera and seek a remedy. Instead we have to do their work for them and (unpaid ) and solve their problems between us. Authoritarian profiteering No I am moving and taking all me stuff with me .the internet companies are becoming fascist.
