Am I the only one who prefers the old look of the vertical tabs? The new ones feel a bit too big and visually distracting. The tab count indicator is way too noticeable and takes away from the clean look, and the tab group colors seem much more washed out now. I really liked how simple and subtle the old design was.

@marys-drahin: one i also noticed when you have it minimised there is a bit of space around the same buttone where you can grab it. that area seems to be the only area you can reliably grab the window. unless you want to mess with the pixel or 2 above and below the adress bar. which only seems to work if the window isn't maximised

I have just tried the reversed order of tabs and I love it! I didn't know that I really need it until I tried it. I also like that vertical tabs are more toned down.

It would be interesting to be able to customize the position of the vertical tab strip—choosing between the left or right side. Personally, I find it more intuitive to have it on the right.

make all those seetings per window ... with a setting as defaults for new windows. In some player window I do not neet expanded tabs, in others I do need them.also the width of the tab column, per window. not possible. you don't seem to work with a lot of windows.
also, under windows, where are the reliable spots to drag a window? Since people began to develop the bad habit of abusing the window title bar, it became encreasingly more annoying draging a window.why do developers more and more not go the extra mile ...

For me it lacks 2 things:
- Be able to show the workspaces buttons on the vertical tabs panel, so that I can hide the sidebar to save more space.
- Auto hide feature for the vertical tabs panel, just like in Chrome or Edge.
When the sidebar is hidden, Vertical tabs panel should still use the full height space.

Until Opera has no built-in ad-block for YouTube as Brave does, I refuge using Opera no matter its design is.
Another thing to point out is that Opera-creators want to put things into the nature that do not belong there - "hugge". If I want to work on a computer, I need a nice warm and dry environment around me for being able to focus. If I want to join the nature then I do not take the computer with me.
Then, I clicked "Log in to post" which opened a pop-up window. I logged on. Then the pop-up window told me that it would be safe to close the window which I did. Again, I have to click "Log in to post". I did that just now. Again, a pop-up window opened, this time with forums. I closed that window. I need to click the button for the third time and its text displayed is "Post a comment" now.
You guys are far for a user-friendly system.

How many times do we have to ask for customizable Vertical Tabs (left or right side)? If you're not going to add this feature, what's the reason?

First off, I love Opera — as a power user, nothing else on the market comes close, and I can’t go back to other browsers. However, after testing the new Vertical Tabs, I wanted to share some feedback from the perspective of someone running 200–300 tabs across multiple Workspaces on a 43-inch monitor.
While Vertical Tabs sound great on paper, forced "either-or" mode feels unintuitive for heavy multi-tab workflows. I believe the true strength would be a Hybrid Mode that combines both horizontal and vertical tab spaces.
Here are the key pain points and suggested solutions:

The Core Issue: Finding Newly Opened Tabs
When using Vertical Tabs with hundreds of tabs open, middle-clicking a link opens a new tab somewhere in the vertical list. I end up having to scroll and hunt to find where it landed. It breaks the active workflow. -
Proposal: Hybrid Tab Layout
Instead of locking users into only vertical or only horizontal tabs, allow us to mix both:
Horizontal Bar (Active Workspace): Keep currently active/working tabs and newly middle-clicked links on the traditional horizontal bar at the top for quick, immediate access.
Vertical Bar (Tab Islands & Storage): Use the vertical panel as a visual overview for inactive Tab Islands, grouped content, or tabs kept for reference across the workspace.
Auto-Archiving / Restructuring: Newly opened horizontal tabs could be manually dragged into a vertical Tab Island, or automatically sorted into their respective vertical island upon restarting the browser.

Flexible Pinning
Give users the choice to pin tabs either in the vertical sidebar or on the traditional horizontal bar above the address bar. -
Tab Target Size on Large Displays
With hundreds of tabs, misclicking is a constant battle (even on a 43-inch screen). A hybrid approach—where the top bar handles current task tabs and the side panel holds organized islands—would make target areas much easier to click.
Summary:
Forcing a choice between pure horizontal or pure vertical feels like a missed opportunity. Giving users the freedom to customize which tabs/islands live horizontally and which stay in the vertical panel would make Opera even better.Thanks for constantly pushing the browser forward!

Here's a crazy concept: Why don't you let us have new tabs appear on the bottom of the tab strip, while the actual new tab button remains on the top???

That's how I met the "New tab" button:) Always RMB-Down gesturing or shift-clicking on a bookmark
