I reached the point today when i finally quit Opera. I was running old and new on different systems and gave up on the new version, mainly due to the annoyances of the design. Today it updated on my other system so i gave up and downloaded a different browser.
They'll not change the design, or offer an alternative, so i give up on them. -

@beboss same for me. but only on M2 Max MacBook Pro. When launching from terminal it reports "bus error".
On another MacBook Pro (intel i9) there is no crash for me. everything works just fine. both machines are on Sonoma Beta 4. intel mac works, m2 max mac not.killing profile folder does not help. reinstalling (clean - with killed profile) also does not work. latest stable opera one build works.
moved my dev profile to stable, everything seams to work, however I somehow lost couple of opened tabs, that were open for weeks on opera one dev even until the upgrade to sonoma beta. but in stable those tabs just gone and history is missing couple of days

correction. it didn't properly updated on my intel Mac that's why it was working on that machine (didn't click on relaunch opera after update). after relaunch same as on m2 max. so the latest dev build is broken in general on Sonoma, no matter which cpu

@ralf-brinkmann: No, I am seeing this on Linux as well. I need to close those windows using the window manager (operating system), i.e. the windows' "X" button.

I also used to use Opera as my default browser, but I have uninstalled it ever since update 100 released. Now I use Brave and would advise everyone to use Brave. It has a built-in ad-blocker and tracking blocker, that is 92323652365 times better than that of Opera, if you combine it with uBlock Origin, no ad gets through. The UI of Brave is better and more compact than that of Opera, which is 2 times bigger and fatter, it doesn't have the ugly borders on the side that serve absolutely no purpose.
I think at this point Opera just blindly copied the UI of Edge and Firefox in the worst way possible, the result is Opera highlighted the worst design decisions about this UI with floating "tab islands" and some ugly borders around tabs and everything in general just being oversized and taking copious amounts of screen space for absolutely no reason.
Or maybe Opera thinks 99.99% of its userbase is people with visual disabilities that need to have everything oversized so they can see it, but I'm asking myself why are they making it impossible to make things not oversized and broken? Are they afraid that people can fix their broken mess?

As a friend was using Brave i decided to give it a go. It's certainly better than the hideous Opera One design.
I came to Opera due to issues with Firefox design, and Opera have really taken the worst of it and added it here. The whole tabs bar for me is an irritating mess that i really can't be bothered to use, and that border is dreadful. That alone is enough to push me away. It ruins how i use the browser. There's no need for it.The trouble is, i feel i had more pleasant user experience 4 or 5 years ago. Every time i change browser there seems to just be the odd things not quite as good as i'd had before. Design for a long time seems to be a race to be the most useless and annoying.
I'd rather not have all the fancy tech if i could have decent design. But they won't listen to those they piss off, we're really not worth anything to them. -

@weilan lol. the very funny part is that brave is also chromium based. read about Web Integrity API, which google is now testing. which is a DRM for the internet, a total censorship. which gonna block every adblock functionality in all chromium based browsersโฆ giving google ability to decide which site you are allowed to visit ofc official statement is that this is for our security in reality a total censorship of information. so all chromium based browsers are semi dead in a nearest future

I can't close cards on the Microsoft Surface in tablet mode, because cards don't have touchable closing button

Just downloading. I hope they fixed all the new bugs and "improvements". Otherwise I will also join the queue of those who are looking for other, stable, small, fast, always working and safe (!) browsers without stealth tracking and all the unnecessary bells and whistles. -
