Upgrades leave old versions

Opera leaves multiple older copies of itself in c:\program files. I currently have 4 directories of various v56 releases and 6 directories of v57. Can they be deleted and how do I stop the creation of these.

The system is win10 x64.

They are older versions - you can't "stop the creation" since they are what you were using.

To be able to update itself even while the program is running Opera doesn't touch the old version (unlike programs that want you to quit while installing the update). This also means that should an error in the new install occur you can just delete the new version and the old one is still there. But 10 older versions is excessive - you can delete as many of the older versions as you wish.

Though I note you didn't mention 60 or 58 ...

Those older folders should be very small, like with just a log file. Only the previous version takes up some space, like in case you want to roll back. So yes, you can delete those.

@sgunhouse Hi sgun, this may seem like an odd query coming from me as a long term user since Opera v3 series before I progressed to desktop!

OS Win7 32-bit.
When a new version appears in my Opera location after update, and once I'm okay with the new update, I right click the previous version folder, then click 'Delete' which I assume removes all previous version files?

However, I have noticed Opera leaves 'leftover' files. It's perhaps the system itself which fails to remove all previous Opera files when deleting. To remove these I may use IObit uninstaller and the IObit "file shredder" that comes with it to remove other files I don't want.

Where you mention to another user above that, "you can delete as many of the older versions as you wish", I assume you mean right click the previous version folder/s and click delete?

@operafanuk Yes you can right click and delete them. I've done that with no major problems with the currently installed version.
