@bigoofman Addendum: I can see that this question arose almost a month ago. At that time @burnout426answered with a link to a website with a possible solution. Unfortunately there was no feedback from the user whether the procedure described there could solve the problem.
@pierox21 For the settings, use Sync or just copy Opera's profile directory and paste it into GX's one.
Please notice that it will override your GX settings.
I would also love this as well. I used FVD Speed Dial every day in Google Chrome. Opera doesn't need to mimic every feature of FVD, but at least give a bit more customisable features. The auto-generated text logos are really an eyesore, as a gaming browser, aesthetics matter a great deal.
I know this thread is quite old, but if you're still interested in a way to suspend tabs, then The Great Suspender is great for that. I've used it and it does pretty much everything you're asking for there. Granted, you'll also need to install the 'Install Chrome Extensions' add-on.
+1 for Steam in the sidebar. It's pretty much a must-have if Opera GX is a "gaming browser".
While it's not as robust as it could be, there is an unofficial YouTube sidebar extension for Opera. I do recommend disabling the mobile view in its options though, as YouTube mobile is a bit of nuisance.
