  @johnlowrie Got rid of it in the end, for a while. There was an X to click but it was obscured as it corresponded with a small black part of my background image.

  @burnout426 Programs don't ordinarily say they are creating a restore point during install.

  @burnout426 hi! thanks for your help, forgot this existed. i think opera was just doing a clean-out or update or something, because it's gone back to the new version now. thanks anyway!

  I figured it out. One has to click on the purple vertical "I" on the right, which then shows extensions. Why Opera is setting this not showing by default on update is really annoying. Trying to figure this out and the various steps I tried to get back the extensions wasted a good part of the afternoon.

  Goto the URL opera://settings/clearBrowserData, switch to "advanced" and clear browsing history and download history for all time. Then, goto the URL opera://about, take note of the "profile" path, close Opera, and delete the "History" file in the profile folder.

  Then, in the downloads folder you have set at the URL opera://settings/downloads, delete any files with a filename that ends with the .opdownload extension.

  Then, delete everything in "C:\Windows\temp" and "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\temp".

  @neverlandsystem What help page? At help.opera.com there isn't such thing.

  Anyway, to choose the theme, light or dark, you can use settings page or easy setup.

  I have been having the same problem ever since the update in Sep 2023. I waited for the fix from Opera but it has not come.

  I have since lose faith and given up, and regretfully moved on to Edge.

  Opera needs to be more proactive. Otherwise it will lose more users.
