I myself am a developer, and whenever there's a feature that's being retired, there's always a sane and valid reason to do so, it is also explained thoroughly to the user why it has been done so. Since this was a feature for ease-of-use, it has been moved for no apparent reason. In the end, the quality and easy of use has degraded regardless of one's view - instead of making one click to access closed tabs (because not always do we need the last one), we now have to make additional movements and clicks. What's more, it's not placed far from tabs, where it was previously placed and felt natural.
Had to roll back and disable auto-update. Thank you very much for forcing me to tick to older versions because of no apparent reason.

I am very disappointed in how opera turned out to be, especially considering why so many of us have used it since version 9 and even before that.

I completely agree with ericartman92. Removing a unique feature of convenience and replacing it with one of degraded convenience is terrible move, and it drives away Opera's users. Why would you eliminate features that distinguish Opera from Chrome & Firefox?? It's not like Opera has the majority market.

I know this has been requested in another topic(s) but the workaround there no longer works.

I am talking about this Search button the top right that replaced the beautiful Dropdown of Open/Closed tabs:

I very often have 50+ tabs open when I'm working on something intensely. The old dropdown box had the following advantages over this new "Search tabs" feature:

1. You could mouse-over the tab name in the dropdown box to instantly see a preview of the contents of that tab.
2. You could Shift+Click the tab name in the dropdown to quickly close that tab.
3. The dropdown box was much longer (in height) and showed many more tabs than the new Search box's UI.
4. The dropdown box was in place on the side away from obstructing the tab; that was a better UI design than diverting the user's attention to a new UI box placed centrally, obstructing the currently open tab. Plus, the Search box doesn't conform to the theme (I have Dark theme on).

Point number 1 & 2 were very useful for me! Point 1 allowed me to quickly find the tab that I was trying to find by visual inspection; I need not remember a text from it to type into the stupid Search box that exists now. Point 2 allowed me to clean up my tabs. I could just shift+click away tabs selectively that I dont need from the dropdown box without going to that tab first and then closing it.

For new users who don't know what I'm referring to, this is what the Tabs Dropdown list looked like:

This is how my tab bar looks right now when I need to clean up the tabs, and I dearly miss the old Tabs Dropdown box that was stupidly removed.

@Opera, you are bringing upon your own demise, and I hate to see this happening. Even after SO MANY people have asked to bring this back, you have not brought it back; rather you even removed the #search-in-open-tabs flag. You're begging for the Ghana pallbearers to carry your coffin to the graveyard! Don't you dare delete this post; let people support it and you do something about it.

Seeing as Opera devs don't care about their users nor do they have any idea on what they are doing with the UI, I am considering switching to Vivaldi now. But Vivaldi also lacks the features I am looking for which Opera had before this terrible change. How's the dev team and community response at Vivaldi?
Features I care about are:

1. A quick list of Open Tabs (like the dropdown that Opera had) which shows preview of tab with mouseover.
2. Ability to close tabs with shift+click / <some key>+click on the tab
3. Popout video that has better controls than the vanilla popout from chromium. Opera had a great one before they switched to the dumb one from chrome.
4. Syncing extensions, passwords across devices.

The pop-out video button (green button on top of the video frame) does not appear for netflix anymore, since about September. The pop-out works on other websites like youtube, facebook, news sites etc, but not on netflix. It seems netflix has made some changes on their side.

Is there any fix or a workaround?

I'm using Opera version: 48.0.2685.39 on Windows 10.

The most-recently-used behavior of Ctrl+Tab in Opera is THE MAIN feature of Opera why I use it! It is far from annoying,.. it makes browsing very convenient. Who the hell wants to cycle 20 tabs to the left to get to the tab they were on before, all the while looking at the tabs? And even for such people, Opera gives the option to cycle tabs as nvmjustagirl pointed out.

Most-recently-used behavior is the same that Alt+Tab in windows also uses. So in fact, this is the right behavior to keep things standard and convenient. It's only because of stupid Firefox's and Chrome's popularity that their cycling-through behavior started becoming the norm for worse.

I usually like opening a lot of new tabs, and avoid closing them until the end of the day or my work session. During my day, I end up browsing about multiple topics as I multi-task. Thus, I have groups of tabs which are usually next to each other. It would be nice to have a "Separator line" to demarcate the groups of tabs.

For example, this is how my tab-bar looks like currently:

This makes it very easy identifying where a desired tab would be.

PS: No ability to add images in the forum?? That's bad.

I am highly disappointed with the latest version of Opera using Chrome-like picture-in-picture implementation to pop-out a video into a floating window.

This is a feature I have been using a LOT with Opera, and have been telling friends proudly about it to get them to switch to Opera. Opera's own implementation (until before the latest release) allowed video controls on the floating window. It also showed the video in both places - the original window and the floating window. When working on multiple screens, I find this very useful.

Now with the latest release, I see that the pop-out video is implemented like Chrome's picture-in-picture mode in which, the floating window has no video controls at all, and the original window shows a black screen. It is inconvenient to forward/rewind the video in such a scenario. Plus, clicking anywhere in the floating window does not play/pause the video. The new floating window doesn't even show the video title on mouse-over which I used to find useful. The previous implementation was much more intuitive and convenience w.r.t these factors.

To me, this is an example of Opera giving up on its own uniqueness that was actually better than the mainstream, to be more like the mainstream. If you keep on doing this, then what would be the reason to use Opera over Chrome?

Please bring back how the original pop-out video feature worked as default. Is there a setting flag to switch back for now?

I've been waiting for this since the Opera revamped. It has been years now, please implement synchronizing extensions and search keywords.

The dropdown list on top right used to show all open tabs, and on mouseover used to preview each open tab. That was extremely handy when I had many tabs open to quickly see which tab has what in it. I also used the Recently Closed list in it a lot which is also gone! The mouseover previewing was unique to Opera!! Why was it removed??

Yes, I know there exists a flag to get it back for now (opera://flags/#search-in-open-tabs), but why would you (devs) change the default feature?? And as a flag, it's probably gonna die out in a few stables releases. Aren't you just making Opera bland & similar to other browsers by removing such an important convenience feature, thus driving away users?

First of all, they changed the flag to #search-in-closed-tabs.
And even if it is set to Disabled, it makes no difference.
