Very dependent on timing
I managed to reproduce the bug (not quite easy).

Like this?
Also managed to reproduce the bug (very hard I should say).
But taking into account that the x button appears after hovering the tab again, it will be very low priority bug.

For me this is greatly disturbing - in my case browsing includes quite a lot tabs opening and subsequent closing; thereby (for me) it would be not so low priority. Sure I can't vouch for others.

@burnout426 Yes like that video. But my cursor does not "leave" the tab like on your video.

I don't know why it is not easy for some to reproduce, but i literally open 5 tabs and then i can reproduce the bug 4 times in just 30 seconds by just hovering up and down. Insanely annoying. Why can't we have a checkmark to have permanent x for those who suffer from it?
Sites were: 1) twitch playing video, 2) youtube main page (nothing played), 3&4) 2x opera forum tabs, 5) discord.

@tonylolkek I have six tabs opened at the moment and I can see the X button on all of them if I put the mouse over the tab.

@tonylolkek Personally, even after a year I didn't dare switching to the Opera One version. So don't use it daily and it's hard to notice such kind of bugs/issues.
There are enough other things (including the permanent x on tabs) that work more correct and look better in pre-One version. -

Okay. I uploaded that video to the bug too. And, the bug has a link to this forum thread. It's something at least.

For awhile now, I've noticed a little odd "tab" behavior. When I mouse-over a tab, to close it, there's no little "x" to click. I have to slid the mouse pointer over to an adjacent tab, then slide back, for it to appear.
Not a big deal, but still odd. Anyone else seeing this?

This bug has been present for over 6 months now. It's very frustrating - the "x" to close a tab doesn't consistently appear when hovering. It's hard to duplicate, but when it happens, it's hard to make it stop.
Please fix. In fact, I see no advantage to getting fancy by making it appear only when hovering - just leave it there all the time.

@leocg this happens to me all the time - I think it mostly happens when the mouse enters the tabs space from underneath it, not sure what further conditions must be met but it fixes itself when the mouse leaves and reenters most of the time - I go to the right and back since that works more often than down and back.
This bug is very annoying and for quite some time now, should be fixed asap.

Disable Animations:
Go to Settings (you can access this by typing opera://settings in the address bar).
Scroll down to the "Browser" section or search for "User interface animations".
Disable "User interface animations." This might reduce any lag or delay that causes the issue. For more visit: https://orlandojiujitsu.com/

It's almost a year later and still not fixed. Apparently bug report(s?) has been filed to no avail. Maybe a new browser is in order. I just switched to this one from Firefox; it seems I may need to look further.
