Opera 12.xx had a separate search box, and it had dropdown menu, so you could choose your search engine e.g., amazon, ebay. blekko. Is there a way to configure Opera 23 to do this. This is one of the features that keeps me using opera 12.

There is no way to do that, you can only change the deafaut search engine in settings page. You have 5 search engines to choose

Can you use and customize single character shortcuts to trigger searches like you could in Opera 12?
Like directly searching abebooks.com by typing "b maya angelou"? -

Can you add search engines to the address bar. The ebay search engine does not work, and I would like fix it.

Of all the issues I have with the "new" Opera, the unavailability of MANY places to specifically search (ie, Amazon, IMDB, etc) is the one that will always keep me from moving to Opera 24 etc. The ability to create a search with a right click in the search field on any Web page is the biggest plus for Opera 12 and before. Add the lack of a Bookmark tab etc, and I will faithfully stay with 12.17

I understand there is a concern of a security risk(malware becoming your default search engine), though I wish there was a custom choice to have something like DuckDuckGo as default for those willing to take that risk. Of course if a safe solution is found that would be just as good and even better.

This feature has been around since a long time. Right click on a search field and then choose "create search" or something similar.

Please clarify. Can you change your default search engine, or are you limited to customized single character searches?

If it was me asked: yes, I can; no, I'm not (only one s.engine can be active - no dropbox).
Do you have Chrome?
