@burnout426
I don't think that such behavior is related to speed dials.I for example have no speed dials, but have seen such behavior sometimes too - Opera 'autocompletes' address bar with first suggestion entry and I have had hard times to delete autocompleted part of address and navigate to site main page.
I cannot confirm exact versions - erroneus behavior is not currently repeatable.

@burnout426 Yep, in order to reproduce the issue you need to have URL either in a bookmarks or in history.
@donq Could you tell what is your version?
I can reproduce on
Opera Stable 67.0.3575.97
and
Opera Next 68.0.3618.24I do not use Developer version

If I add
https://web.archive.org/web/20200324184317/https://www.opera.com/
to "other bookmarks", visithttps://web.archive.org/web/20200324184317/https://www.opera.com/
, open a new tab and typeweb.archive.org
,https://web.archive.org/web/20200324184317/https://www.opera.com/
will autocomplete inside the address field. If I then, remove everything exceptweb.archive.org
and press enter, Opera goes tohttps://web.archive.org/
. If I were to typehttps://web.archive.org/
, there's no autocomplete.(To reproduce the autocomplete again, I have to visit
https://web.archive.org/web/20200324184317/https://www.opera.com/
again before testing.)So, I can't reproduce that way.
However, if I instead add
https://web.archive.org/web/20200324184317/https://www.opera.com/
to the start page, gotohttps://web.archive.org/web/20200324184317/https://www.opera.com/
, typeweb.archive.org
in the address field and remove all the autocompleted part afterweb.archive.org
so that it just saysweb.archive.org
, and press enter, I can confirm that it takes me tohttps://web.archive.org/web/20200324184317/https://www.opera.com/
instead ofhttps://web.archive.org/
. Again, if I typehttps://web.archive.org
, there's no autocomplete to reproduce the issue. So, for me, (with a fresh profile and fresh cache) in 67.0.3575.97 64-bit on Windows 10 OS Version 1909 (Build 18363.720), I can confirm in that specific start page case. Autocomplete from speed dials seems to be a little too agressive and overrides editing of the autocompleted URL.

If you goto the URL
opera://flags/#suggestion-scoring-improved
, disable the flag and restart Opera, does it still happen? -

That seemed to have fixed it for me. but, if I just got lucky and it doesn't help for you, this issue is DNA-85321 and it's already fixed. Watch the changelogs at https://blogs.opera.com/desktop/. Fix might be in the next Opera Developer build at least.

To be clear, the https://forums.opera.com/post/203488 part of this issue is fixed. When you get a chance to test in Opera Developer, make sure the specific issue in this thread is also fixed. in Opera Developer. If not, there's more work to do on the fix.

At the moment I find it very annoying that after I have entered the address, the first search suggestion is always chosen instead of the entered address when I press Enter.
In my case, I enter Google.de. After pressing enter, I end up in Google Translate because it is the first suggestion in the drop down list.
How can I change this? -

@MrEyeballz It looks like an issue already being discussed in another topic.

This answer is useless and doesn't help remove this nonsense. Always being directed to pages I don't want to visit is a waste of time. Have to leave Opera if there is any solution.

Ok, I remember having this issue in the past, it's probably a bug.
I'm currently using Opera 67.0.3575.137.I'm visiting a web page on a daily basis, let's call it https://abc.com.
Usually, when writing "a", then "b", then possibly "c", opera have completed the address bar with "https://abc.com". That's fine. Now, last week I was creating a post on a forum and I had to generate a link to the reply form (not the actual reply), which is something close to: "https://abc.com/forum/posting.php?action=reply&t=32657".
From then on, whenever I type "a", then "b", opera autocompletes to "https://abc.com", but when I type also "c", it turns the address into "https://abc.com/forum/posting.php?action=reply&t=32657". This makes no sense to me - I don't want to 'reply again', this link should be dead and never used again.
I tried to clear the history of this link but it didn't help. I have even tried to Clear my Browing Data from 7 days ago, it did nothing except from logging me off from the abc.com site.
Also, when autocompleting, I have other proposals but there is an 'X' next to them. the unwanted link has no 'X' next to it (because it doesn't reside in my history).
I want to get rid of that item, what can I do?
Also, what is the priority of those proposals, why suddenly this one link is being proposed over and over, even though I used it like twice or thrice?
Please help.

@burnout426 This behaviour was still found in Opera stable Linux Version:67.0.3575.137. Disabling the flag did the trick. Thanks.
