  • Sadly, it all leads to the painful conclusion of Opera that it cannot find an effective remedy for its previous issue in previous upgrades. This new version v.67.0.3575.97, ccontains the same issues with passes, cookies, and synchronization.
Whatever appeared to be a solution at the beginning, threw all the work with this upgrade to the wind.
It will be useful for Opera read the Forum posts, and take note of what is happening.

  • Not that you should have to wipe out all of your Opera settings and data, but try testing with a fresh profile.

Download the Opera installer, launch it, click "options", set "install path" to a folder named "Opera Test" on your desktop, set "install for" to "standalone installation" and install. Test how things work in that Opera. When you enable Opera Sync, try skipping syncing of settings at first to see how things work. If they work fine, try syncing settings too. if things still work fine, there might be something messed up with your normal Opera profile that'll never get fixed where you'll have to start with a fresh profile to get things working.

Also with Sync, sometimes you have to goto sync.opera.com, reset all your sync data and start all over to fix things (unfortunately).

Test with Opera Beta and Opera Developer at https://www.opera.com/download too. Maybe the issue is fixed in those builds. Of course, they will use their own profiles unless you copy yours over, so that's not going to show how those Operas handle your current profile. But, something to try.

  • Opera, can you do something with this blank space when the "News" section is on? When I have less bookmark dials, this blank space is unnecessary. It'll be better that "News" section is placed directly under speed-dials (not determined by height-size, like now).

  • @bartman1 Hard to tell without knowing what you are seeing but I would say probably yes and probably no.

  • @elspivo: I was reporting it many times, since that time when News were implemented.
When SpeedDial tiles are hidden in Settings the 'gap' at the top looks even more weird.
*I also suggested to add a toggle in EasySetup menu 'hide speed dials' to quickly view News at the top if there are a lot of tiles (similarly to the 'Show speed dial suggestions' toggle in EasySetup).

  • @chas4 Even the Vivaldi browser has released an update https://vivaldi.com/ru/blog/news/minor-update-5-for-vivaldi-2-11/

  • @andrew84 so no chance to change it from developers in the nearest future... 😞

  • @leocg Hi. Could it be the reason?
I checked restriction rules in Kaspersky and the 'installer.exe' (that was from 68.0.3618.18)was automatically blocked and marked as 'untrusted'.
    2020-03-20_210801.png
At the same time, there are tonnes of Opera installers and all are 'trusted' BUT they all have a prefix 'Opera installer', 'Opera beta installer', 'Opera developer installer' and they all refer to 'OPERA SOFTWARE'.

    2020-03-20_211135.png

Maybe 'installer' was not signed by Opera or something similar? Could you confirm that 68.0.3618.18 package has just 'installer.exe' and not the 'Opera beta installer' name?

  • It's very difficult to use this browser any more as its unreliable. It needs a major rework and reliability should be the top priority if it must compete with Chrome or Firefox.

  • @operalinknx1 Why? It works fine here.

  • @andrew84 Where is that installer again?

  • @operalinknx1: Its reliability is the same as that of Chrome.

  • @leocg In latest (68.0.3618.18) Beta installer. But I can't reproduce it now.
Maybe today's AV database update helped, yesterday there was the issue with 19.03 database probably. I was not alone with this issue https://vk.com/wall-23110917_10807?reply=10808
But I had no problems with Stable and Developer installers yesterday though, only with Beta there was an issue on both PCs.

    • You can clean the thread from my posts (screenshots especially) regarding the trojans if you wish and if it's need and if really there are no problems with the latest Beta installer (but duplicates of 'opera autoupdate' folders still seems to be as actual issue)
  • @andrew84 Here I can see installer.exe in all versions of Opera, the folders with the build number. And Windows says that it is signed.

  • Chromecast full optimization is working in Opera GX, Stable and Beta; but the audio looks like a "devil voice" (bass). In Opera Developer there is no optimization.

  • @leocg It works fine now on one PC (no threats found), I can't check it on other PC right now.
I'll write if this happens again.

I also read about the similar issue where user reports that autoupdate is blocked by firewall (as it adds a number to it's name every 15 minutes)

In my case maybe there was some conflict because I have Beta and Dev versions installed and Stable is Portable + installed 58 version that I use daily.

  • Sadly the video pop-out is still completely broken. If you use the old ways it stays completely black, and if you use the new system it:

    • resets the position and size each time,
    • cant pause when clicking the video
    • but it pauses the video when closing the popout???
    • cant adjust the volume,
    • the video becomes grey when you put your mouse on it
  • @regnareb Forgot about the ""original video disappear" and the new way is even more broken as it often stays black too
