Every time I open opera, an extra tab ("speed dial") opens along with the prior windows & tabs that were open when I last closed opera.

I have the setting for "retain tabs from previous session."

Using Version:58.0.3135.79 (but it was also doing this with I version that I downloaded 2 months ago).

I've deleted the dozen or so sites on the speed dial tab that originally came with opera (eg. amazon, ebay, etc etc), but:
It still has a google search bar on it,
with a "+ Add a site" link on the left side of the google bar, and
an "easy setup" link on the right side of the google bar

When I open a new tab, I just want a blank tab with nothing there and I'll type whatever I want instead of looking at a google search bar or anything. And not wasting any more time constantly having to delete it on starting opera.

      Kindly please advise!!!

Not sure why you are getting the extra tab on startup - it shouldn't do that. There is a setting in Settings named "Hide speed dial" that should (by the sound of it - I haven't tested it) show you a blank new tab, though you can separately hide either the search bar or the "Add a site" button should you later decide to enable just speed dial..

How do you start Opera? (Desktop shortcut, task bar, menu item)? If it is a shortcut you might check the properties and make sure there is nothing extra on the commandline. That might remove the extra tab ...
