Why do tabs sometimes change color?

Tabs? You are talking about speed dial thumbnails, right?

Same happens here, it goes away is you close down Opera, and reopen it.

It happens here sometimes; sometimes it just corrects itself while using Opera. I've never figured it out.

I have same issue on two computers. On one it's changed back after restart, but on second it's still changed.

                  I've never figured it out.

I expected the thumbnail color of a speed dial entry to be stored together with the entry itself in the "Bookmarks" file, but this doesn't seem to be the case.

By the way, I wonder if Opera uses a certain scheme to assign a color to a speed dial thumbnail, because for a purely arbitrary color assignment my 40 entries look too sensibly colored.

On my PC (win7 32-bit) the colors of some entries also change sometimes, and then automatically back again, since several Opera versions.

Same here. I doesn't happen to all of them, just the generic type that have the site name and a small 2nd line that says .com or .net. The background color is picked up from the site somehow. Example: on mine, the Amazon related stuff like Amazon, Audible, Goodreads, etc have orange backgrounds. Whenever there's an Opera update, they all turn purple. After a while, they turn orange again, maybe after a reboot or 2

I wonder if these background colors are saved somewhere in the settings during the creation of a new speed dial entry or if they are dynamically reassigned each time the speed dial page is re-opened.

So far I haven't found a configuration file that would save these colors, but from somewhere this color assignment must be done.

This is not a problem, this is not an issue.

This is nice, this is funny.

                            @yanta
Purely MHO, but I think the colors are picked up from an accent color on the favicon or maybe the website. For ex, BBC-black, XDA-orange, Project Gutenburg-red, androidforums-blue. (ignoring the ones that don't) Anyway, maybe the cache gets dumped or overwritten sometimes. Maybe it decides to try complimentary colors (kidding). Why, oh why does my brain dwell on these things? 😏

It’s fascinating how the colors change – like flowers, a kaleidoscope or a bowl of fruits.

A few months have passed since the bug occurred. And developers do nothing. 🤬

I've found a work around that works (so far) for me. I'm on Opera 63 and if you type "opera:flags" in the address bar you get access to some experimental settings (no guarantees!). Find the #force-color-profile setting and change it to sRGB (very rich colours on my kit) or Display P3 D65 (a more muted colour scheme). HDR settings might have some unexpected effects.

If you have to change that setting that usually means you need to adjust the color profile for your monitor in Windows. You do this in "Color Management", add the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile and set it. That's of course if you don't have your monitor set to some other profile on purpose.

Then, you won't need to change the flag.

Setting the Color Management profile worked for me. Kudos to burnout. Very glad to be rid of this little annoyance.

This is not very well documented. We can set a thumbnail image for each speed dial tab:

                                          1. Click the tab,
                                          2. Click the heart (♥) in the address bar; this is the same heart that is clicked to add a bookmark,
                                          3. Use the thumbnail carousel to select the thumbnail that is to be used to represent the bookmark in Speed Dial, then
                                          4. Click 'Done'.

The Add to Bookmarks button (the heart) can be used to put any singular page tab into Speed Dial. I only realised this today after months and months of frustration from wondering why Opera didn't have the option available in the actions dialog displayed when a tab is right-clicked.

I also have the same. In Opera 64 it became permanent. In version 63, I only saw this phenomenon occasionally. My monitor is profiled properly... This variable coloring is really weird. 🤨
