Note that what you're seeing isn't common. Sounds like an issue with your GPU drivers. Try updating them to the newest from the manufacturer.

You can also right-click on OperaSetup.exe, goto properties, then "Compatibility" and change the compatibility mode to see if it makes a difference. If it doesn't, change it back to default.

If all else fails, you can try bypassing the user interface for the installer. Download the Opera installer to your downloads folder, click the Windows Start button, type cmd to search for the command prompt shortcut, right-click on the command prompt shortcut, choose "Run as Administrator" and type this command:

      "%userprofile%\downloads\OperaSetup.exe" --silent "--installfolder=%ProgramFiles%\Opera" --pintotaskbar=1 --allusers=1 --enable-stats=0 --import-browser-data=0 --setdefaultbrowser=1 --launchbrowser=1 --startmenushortcut=1

(adjust paths and filename as needed)

Just keep in mind that the command will take a bit to finish as the installer will have to fetch Opera from the server before it actually does the install. Just be patient. You might not get any feedback and will just have to wait to Opera launches.

After it's all done, you can close Opera and close the command prompt and click on the pinned taskbar button for Opera or get to it from the start menu and pin it. Then you can test to make sure Opera itself works fine for you.

No luck, I'm afraid. I entered the command, let it run for over 10 minutes, still only had the white screen, and monitoring Task Manager, saw there were seven Opera tasks, once named Opera crash-reporter, and all of them were 0%.
White screen did not go away until I killed all the tasks.
GPU drivers are the latest from AMD.

😞 Are you getting the installer from opera.com? Maybe try the x64 one from https://ftp.opera.com/ftp/pub/opera/desktop/57.0.3098.76/win/ to see if there's any difference.

Maybe some security software is interfering? Can you temporarily create a new user account on Windows and try that?

Can you try the beta and developer versions on the right side of https://blogs.opera.com/desktop/ just to see if they behave differently?

I got the download from MajorGeeks website, but I also tried the OperaSetup.exe file downloaded from the Opera site -- same results. I have downloaded the one from the ftp site.

I am using MBAM -- but I will disable real-time protection and see if that makes a difference.

I have downloaded the Opera beta 3098.63 version and the Opera 59.0.3160 developer version.
-- Lots of things to try ... thanks

Disabled MBAM tasks so no AV was running -- already disabled Windows Defender.
Ran beta 57.0.3098.63 setup x64 -- same results as before: Started install, selected options to NOT import from FF (to reduce install time), got white screen, tasks included "crash-reporter", CPU dropped to 0% for all tasks and stayed there.
Killed tasks, saw icon on desktop, clicked it, white screen -- no crash-reporter task this time, but white screen stayed until I killed the tasks.
Ran Developer 59.0.3160.0 setup x64 -- same results.

Do you have enough free space on your hard drive? (Your boot drive where the temp folder is at)

@wawood8 could you send us screenshot of the problem you see? I see @burnout426 assumes that it's installer issue but considering you mention lot of Opera processes it seems to be rather problem with installed browser itself.
If indeed installer is finished but browser goes white, could you try starting browser with switch --disable-gpu. This should disable hardware acceleration which is most common cause for problems with displaying content.

If you mean the 50+MB setup files, then yes.

You might be onto something, as I had to disable hardware accel in order to get VLC to work.
UPDATE: That did it! I added the disable parm to the shortcut -- and am actually posting this in Opera!

How do I mark this thread as SOLVED? I didn't see any entry for that under Topic Tools
