Version: 57.0.3098.102
OS: 10.14.1The bug is still here. Very annoying. No other software on my machine demonstrates this issue so I assume it's an Opera bug.

Hi all,
I'm having headaches with this issue. I didn't customised any shortcut in Opera and from time to time when I use the Command + W shortcut to close a tab the complete Opera Window is closed. Without any error message.
Other Opera windows are still open so I'm sure I'm not accidentally hitting Command + Q.
Any clue how to fix this?
Thanks.

For now, there is a temporary work aroun: After you've hit Command + W (and the window closes instead of the tab) do the following: Command + N (to open a new window) followed by Command + Shift + T (to re-open the last tab). This will actually open the last window you've closed including all tabs (granted it wasn't an incognito window).

Yes I tried that too. Hasn't happened once since I reinstalled Opera yesterday...

For me the best workaround for this issue is:
- Open again opera
- Chooce "History" option from the top
- Choose option: reopen last closed window

Presumably this is now being fixed in the Developer version 59 (under DNA-73684). I've asked if this could at least be backported to the upcoming Stable 58...

@hub It won't be fixed as cmd+w is a macOS system wide keyboard shortcut to close windows. Looking into it, it seems dumb that Opera would include this as a shortcut to close current tabs, when it is a system wide mac command.. All I can think of is that macOS is over riding it and that Opera should introduce a new shortcut to overcome this. See list of mac shortcuts here: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201236

It has been backported to O58 stable, let us know if you still see anything like this problem!

@headspacedude All browsers, including FF, Safari and Chrome include Cmd+W as a shortcut to close tabs and none have displayed this bug. I'm glad that O58 looks likely to have fixed this, by the way, as confirmed elsewhere.

Still same problem wit O58, Very annoying. I'm seriously considering switching back to another browser, even if I liked Opera a lot,

@sinouhe I concur. I just had this happen to me again... Opera devs, this bug is seriously dragging on for quite a few versions now...

To fix the issue you need to close the start tab (Speed dial). After that it works normally
Also, it makes sense to enable window closing confirmation.
Hopefully that helps.

Everyone, my most sincere apologies, I read some information wrong: the fix for the remaining issue that occurs after opening a new window was not backported to O58 in time for the initial release, so it'll only be in the next O58 update to come along. This will be released at the start of next week.

@shintoplasm01 Yes, because as I said, this is a macOS system shortcut, not one exclusive to Opera. Opera need to provide a new shortcut on macOS to close tabs. Or you could redefine it, which I know is not ideal (see the link): https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwjd-62Eg5PgAhWcUxUIHfmnAAwQFjACegQIBxAM&url=http%3A%2F%2Fosxdaily.com%2F2017%2F08%2F08%2Fcreate-custom-keyboard-shortcut-mac%2F&usg=AOvVaw019KKJXU-aAg6ebNq05HWb

@headspacedude So please could you explain to me why the Cmd+W shortcut works perfectly for closing tabs and not windows in Chrome and Firefox? It's not an incompatibility with system-wide macOS shortcuts, it's an Opera bug which is still waiting for a fix.

Yes, just to be clear, this is an Opera bug :). It appeared when updating to macOS 10.14 because Apple changed the behavior of how often menus and shortcuts get refreshed.
