Mostly on news websites and PBS, I am getting "couldn't load plugin". It was working fine yesterday, but when I booted up this morning, they won't play. I have updated the browser but no change. I updated Flash last evening, but no change. Any suggestions on why this happening and what I can do? You Tube videos play fine. What plugin am I supposed to have that I haven't had before?

I'd like to add that for some time Vimeo videos aren't playing in Opera either, though they play in other browsers.

BTW, I am using Vista Home Premium. (And I can't find anyway to edit a post once it's made. )

This may be the origin of the problem.

Opera relies on the OS to play some codecs and may not be able to play them if the OS doesn't support the codecs natively.

If it's the OS, why was it playing them yesterday and not today? Which brings me to another questions: I can see my plugins, but I can't see if they are up to date, when they were last updated, or if they are working properly. Any way to figure that out? Because, what if it's a plugin?

It can have been a site change, a bug in Opera, there could be lots of reasons.

You would need to provide a few links so people can try to check.

Any way to figure that out?

You would need to go to each plugin page and check it there.

                    1. Uninstall Flash PPAPI plugin 23.0.0.162 from Control Panel.
                    2. Download Flash PPAPI plugin 22.0.0.209 from
                      http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/win/install_flash_playe r_22_ppapi.exe
                    3. Install it.
                    4. Be Happy . ....... Ok found this and tried it, it worked for me, everything is back to working for me in Opera ! Good luck 🙂

You can also try for the following: go to Settings > Websites and make sure that the "Plugins" section has "Run all plug-in content" enabled. Please let us know if it helped in any way?

O I am also getting "couldn't load plugin".

Uninstall Flash PPAPI plugin 23.0.0.162 from Control Panel.
                          Download Flash PPAPI plugin 22.0.0.209

That is not the problem. As I have set my Flash to be updated manually, so I had not upgraded to the new one.

But I have some similar issues with videos on Twitter (but that started some months ago). I put this down to the fact I am using Windows XP. My opera version is 36.0.2130.80 (at it says it is up to date).

I had the same problem, I'm also using Vista Home Premium and Flash player was not working in Opera 36, or Pale Moon. Yandex did work for me though. (I'm very impressed with Yandex most of the time).

Definitely seems like a problem limited to Flash 23 and Vista and XP. It's also being discussed on Adobe forum.

                            https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2208589

I used the link in the Adobe thread to get Flash 22, seems to have worked for me. (note: there is a typo in the link above, here is how it should look-

                              Twitter uses html5, not Flash.

Yep, that's it. Opera depends on the OS to play some media codecs and XP doesn't natively supports them so Opera can't play them.

The same as above is also valid for Vista.

I was having problems playing video reviews on Amazon - the videos would stop after a minute or two with an indefinite playback error - so I decided to follow the advice in this thread: installed latest Flash, enabled the run all content for plugins option, and now the problem is even worse. Now there's no play/arrow button on any of the videos, so I can't even start playing them now. 😉
