@Blacha123 It seems that the access to the auto update server is being blocked.
Or maybe you have disabled automatic updates by removing or renaming the auto update executable.

@Blacha123 What’s it say when you try to ping the update servers?

@burnout426 said in Opera - Your version is 120.0.5543.161 Checking for updates... - problem:
What’s it say when you try to ping the update servers?
How to disable update lock?

@Blacha123 Then you haven't done it - intetionally anyway. Possibly your antiv8rus could have sequestered it though

@sgunhouse antivirus disabled - the problem persists
I would like to add that other browsers work as they should in this regard, but Opera does not want to fully check this update. -

@Blacha123 If a files was sequestered, disabling the antivirus won't restore it - you need to tell the antivirus to do that.

It's probably not an antivirus, I checked everything, I removed Opera from the firewall and nothing

@Blacha123 See where the program directory is listed as in About Opera. Open that folder in File Explorer. There should be a subfolder named Autoupdatr, that folder should include the file opera_autoupdate.exe (though Windows may hide the ".exe" part.)

@Blacha123 If the file is there, , that is how it should be..

Something is progressing, though, because now it doesn't freeze while checking, but instead says this:
An error occurred while checking for updates.

@Blacha123 Not sure what you're referring to. Trying to ping the servers doesn't require you to unlock anything.

@Blacha123 Do the following:
- Go to opera://about and take note of the installation directory
- Uninstall Opera. Make sure to not remove your data
- Go to the installation directory and remove all content in it
- Install Opera
- Try checking for updates again

@Blacha123 Then it seems that something outside Opera is preventing it from checking for updates.
Can you ping the servers as asked above?

@Blacha123 What was the result?
Also, can you do a traceroute to them?
