I can't update and keep getting the same message that it's checking for updates. Multiple reboots didn't help. I even installed it on a different partition, but the system drive didn't work. A fresh download and installation of Opera didn't help either. It's strange because Opera for Gamers has the same problem.

  • Go to opera://about and take note of the installation directory
  • Uninstall Opera. Make sure to not remove your data
  • Go to the installation directory and remove all content in it
  • Install Opera
  • Try checking for updates again

Open that folder in File Explorer. There should be a subfolder named Autoupdatr, that folder should include the file opera_autoupdate.exe (though Windows may hide the ".exe" part.)

I would like to add that other browsers work as they should in this regard, but Opera does not want to fully check this update.

I will add that none of your methods help, and the fresh Opera, the one for gamers, has the same problem and is installed on a different drive, it's strange, isn't it?
