      Checking for updates...

      I can't update and keep getting the same message that it's checking for updates. Multiple reboots didn't help. I even installed it on a different partition, but the system drive didn't work. A fresh download and installation of Opera didn't help either. It's strange because Opera for Gamers has the same problem.

            That version is the newest version at this very moment, so there shouldn't be an update.

            But, if you want, goto the URL opera://about, take note of the "install" path, download "Opera_120.0.5543.161_Setup_x64.exe" from https://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/desktop/120.0.5543.161/win/ and close Opera.

            Then, uninstall Opera but don't choose to delete your data when uninstalling.

            Then, delete the install folder.

            Then, delete everything in "C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\temp" and "C:\Windows\temp".

            Then, launch the installer you downloaded, click "options", make sure everything is how you like it and install.

            Also note that if you goto opera://update or opera://about as soon as you start Opera (before the updater process gets a chance to load), checking for updates might fail. So, always reference the page and check for updates multiple times to be sure. Or, check the ftp site to see if there's a newer update. Link above shows you where regular Opera installers live. https://ftp.opera.com/ftp/pub/opera_gx is where Opera GX installers are at.

            Also, it might be good to check if your computer can even connect to Opera's update servers. You can open up a command prompt and try:

            ping autoupdate.opera.com
            
            ping autoupdate.geo.opera.com
            
            ping us-autoupdate.opera.com
            

            You can also check opera.com in general if you want.

            You can also check the status of the autoupdate server at https://status.opera.com/.

              You misunderstood me, what I mean is that after checking it said it was valid and now it is checking and it cannot complete the checking process where at the end it said it was valid

                Your methods don't help. It still checks, and it doesn't say that Opera is up to date, only this:

                  If the update check never finishes, your firewall or something on your network would be blocking it.

                    @sgunhouse firewall completely disabled and the problem still persists ๐Ÿ˜ž

                        @leocg Yes, I can, I did everything as the guy above, uninstalled, clearing the entire Opera folder and Windows temp, and I can reinstall it with the data. I will add that none of your methods help, and the fresh Opera, the one for gamers, has the same problem and is installed on a different drive, it's strange, isn't it?

                          @Blacha123 It seems that the access to the auto update server is being blocked.

                          Or maybe you have disabled automatic updates by removing or renaming the auto update executable.

                                @Blacha123 Then you haven't done it - intetionally anyway. Possibly your antiv8rus could have sequestered it though

                                  @sgunhouse antivirus disabled - the problem persists
                                  I would like to add that other browsers work as they should in this regard, but Opera does not want to fully check this update.

                                    @Blacha123 If a files was sequestered, disabling the antivirus won't restore it - you need to tell the antivirus to do that.
