Just recently, facebook manager popped up and took up about 1/3 of my entire screen when I opened Opera. I do not use Facebook Messenger and I'd like to know how my Opera account got associated with it. I have hidden it, but I'd like to have it completely out of my Opera installation. How does it get installed/activated?

@trippap Your Opera has no relation with your Facebook account.

The Facebook Messenger, as well the other messengers, in sidebar is part of Opera and can't be uninstalled. You can only remove the sidebar icon.

@trippap Messenger, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Telegram will continue to pop up in the sidebar, even after they have been disabled and Opera's settings have been optimized for privacy. Opera is now owned by a Chinese company, so it's no longer a good choice for privacy protectionists. Despite the inconvenience, you should switch to Firefox if you don't want your data to be stolen and monetized by somebody else.

@saltyfox Wrong, they will never pop up if you don't visit those sites. And no one at Opera or anywhere else can access your data. If you want real privacy, never use Facebook, Whatsapp, Twitter, etc.

@sgunhouse Wrong. I don't even have a Facebook account, and I'm looking at the Messenger Icon in my sidebar Right Now.

@saltyfox And there is no problem with it, just right click on the sidebar, open sidebar settings and disable the Messenger icon.

@saltyfox If you never hid it, then of course it's still there. I turned mine off years ago and it hasn't come back.
