      @duncanm

      Here is what I did:

      Right clicked the Opera shortcut
      Clicked on Properties,
In Target box, I added a space then typed -show-component-extension-options
      Clicked Apply
      Closed the box.
      Re-opened Opera
      Went to Extensions.
The default is to 'show all' but it only shows the enabled Opera ad-blocker

How do you normally open Opera ? There should be a shortcut in your start menu under all programs but I'm using Win 7, don't know how it works on 10.

The banner is gone and all I see is the enabled Opera ad-blocker so I must be golden.

@Keepskite Hidden extensions have been there since a while and are very common nowadays. They are usually harmless and use do add resources to the browser.
Chrome, Vivaldi and probably any other Chromium based browsers use them.

@rafiki Hidden extensions exist in other browsers too, they are a way to add resources.

@leocg I'd be interested to know what benefit an Aliexpress or Amazon hidden extension will add to my experience. I cannot disable them or disallow permissions. I even wonder if that complies with the EU GDPR.

@xtorbax I have also been able to tun Opera with the show-component-extension-options and found the Rich Hints Agent requiring the update. I updated it and the banner is no longer appearing. But having found all these hidden and impossible to disable agents was extremely disappointing and I'm afraid I lost my confidence in Opera.

@xtorbax said in Extension upgrade requires additional permissions...:

Having a CryptoTokenExtension is even more worrisome.

It's probably what makes the crypto wallet works.

@rafiki Aliexpress probably is related to the Continue Shopping feature.

@leocg I want to believe you but something that can read and change data, settings, even copy and paste contents not to mention being enabled in private window when all other legit extensions are not has an uphill battle to show they are harmless.

@leocg Why can I not withhold permissions? I don't use that 'feature'.

@AltairAssassins if you enter opera.exe --show-component-extension-options you will see a list of updates and the first one is Rich Hints Agent and just update it.

Why am I getting an annoying popup concerning updating my Opera extensions? I clicked on the update button and it apparently takes care of it but the popup keeps coming back over and over.Opera Popup.JPG

Apparently no one knows the answer to this issue. How it got shuffled in with the "Ignore" this subject thread I don't know. So, I am done here.

I am having the same issue. The drop-down appeared today for the first time and now, every time I start the browser and open ANY website (I tested it with literally anything I could come up with), the dropdown appears, telling me that an extension requires additional updates. I uninstalled every extension and reinstalled the browser. Nothing changed. I used the " --show-component-extension-options" thing but it does not show me ANY other extension in my list at all. The only thing in my list is the Opera Webblocker.

Since the issue is resolved for me, what are the steps to stop receiving email notifications for this thread only (I still want to receive future email notifications but I want to stop them for this specific thread only)?

Clicking 'unsubscribe' at the bottom of the email opens up the user settings menu.
