@DavyP See if Opera's bookmarks shows the right faxicons or not. If Opera itself doesn't show them it means Opera doesn't have them in its cache. Clearing History will also delete favicons, they would show again after you visit the sites. If Opera has the faxicons but your extension doesn't, that is something the author would need to fix.
Inside the bookmarks bar I had some bookmarks, and a folder called: "Imported" and inside this folder another called "Speed dials" with all the speed dial links, I just selected all and drag to the Speed dial menu (at left), and the speed dial is restored now.
@Vick77 I see. If I shrink the width of the window, the left-hand pane does indeed disappear. In does that in Chrome too, but Chrome then adds a hamburger button at the top left that shows the left-hand pane again when you click it. Opera doesn't have that button.
