Slight addition ... Opera for Linux did that, and there was an option in Windows so that specifically middle-clicking on the tab bar could do that. (Though in Linux the text only needed to be highlighted, in Windows it was from the clipboard.)
You really need to specify platform ... in Opera desktop versions you can specify a maximum number of columns. Though it is considered an advanced setting - you need to scroll down and click on the Show advanced settings checkbox before you'll see it.
I think that being able to specify a fixed number of column no matter what the size of Opera windows is (like before in 12) would be a pretty nice feature.
That way, you always know where your dials are. Instead of moving everything around, change the dial size

It'd be better if it were an option for the browser to render "plain show" as static and the full view will be on hover. If you're talking about like "GIF tables" of sorts...
