I'm facing the same problems.
Pages loading time is higher, using scroll makes me shoot my head and almost all the times when page is loading the fun is at full speed. I have the version 38.0.2220.12, and with the earlier version everything went fine! I'm considering to say goodbye to opera beta

For some reason the Beta seems to rely more on the CPU for very simple operations like page loading. The freezing, at least in my case, is definitely cause by CPU spikes (see images above). The Dev Opera (v. 39) helped a bit, but there are still spikes.

Worse, graphically intense pages (many small videos/pics) are still very bad and at this time I simply have to switch to Edge for smooth scrolling.

I hope this gets remedied, I was just getting to like Opera again after a years long hiatus when they ditched the old engine.

For now you can disable it in opera://flags#warn-for-unknown-root

What is the difference between them?

As the name suggests, the first one is used by the auto-updater process.

There is no way to fix it AFAIK, besides opening Opera with a normal window and then open a private one.

Same version here, similar problem. Example page - anything of stackoverflow (like http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1506589/c-sharp-variable-height-for-nodes-in-a-treeview). With internal adblocker disabled, page loads instantly. With adblock enabled, page starts loading, displays content and 3 blocked ads, then page is totally unresponsive for about 10 seconds, then finishes, ads count increases to 4.

Similar problems occur on msdn and many other pages.

Hi @sylarxyz, for Opera stable 37 on Linux distros based on Debian/Ubuntu, you can install the "chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra" package, and videos encoded in H.264 should simply work without a problem.

For any other 64-bit Linux distro (and also if you want to make it work in Opera beta and Opera developer), just follow the below steps:

Navigate to the Opera's installation folder (find the path in Opera's menu > About Opera), and create there a new folder "lib_extra",

Download the "opera-ffmpeg-codecs" package for: Opera stable, Opera beta, or Opera developer, and extract the "libffmpeg.so" file to this folder.

Alternatively, if you are using 32-bit Linux distribution, you can download the appropriate packages from here 😉

yes. but i guess it has worked for a wile until recently (always breaks after updates and stays that way). i guess a total reinstall of opera will work. I think this has something to do with a chrome functions (like safe download or something)
