Turbo is a web proxy. Turbo proxy servers are located multiple countries apparently including Russia. Web services that need to know your true IP address can find it in the Forwarded: or X-Forwarded-For: headers.
Thank you @l33t4opera, Got it working by disabling the hardware acceleration. No need to get rid of my X.org drivers, so I get to keep my display set up.
I spent a bit looking through opera://flags relating to the bookmark. Thanks for saving me time.
I have noticed a slow-down in newer versions, too.
In Opera 34, my cpu pegs at 100% for a full minute when I open Opera. It takes 20 s just to display my speed dial. It also maxes out the cpu for an excessive time when loading web pages, with or without Turbo.
By contrast, with Opera 25, the cpu runs at 100% for 6 seconds on startup.
What a bummer if opera is getting too bloated to run on older machines. Mine is a single core 1.6GHz Lenovo from 2009.
