This issue appears to have been fixed.

It turns out that turning off hardware acceleration (in settings) resolved the issue for me.

Can anyone explain to me why the majority of thumbnails in youtube are washed out, and that this behaviour seems to be random because pressing f5 (refresh) will result in some of the same thumbnails switching between full colour and being washed out?
