Thanks for the info - I found another thread that mentioned turning off autoupdate (flagging it current),
[in terminal type "defaults write com.operasoftware.Opera OPDisableAutoUpdate true" press Enter], then download and install v49 which allowed me to access my previous install and login info, etc..
btw - it was supposed to be an 'H' not a 'T' (whatthehell) - typing too fast and too enraged.. 😄
I have same issue. On opera 52 latest release and YouTube videos have a significant lag. FireFox at the same time on the same machine doesnt have an issue at all. I have tried disabling the gpu ignore list etc but nothing helps. I will be eagerly waiting to see if there will be a fix.
I know this was a shot in the dark to find a fix. Sorry if it seems like a dorky attempt, I probably could have posted it better. So thanks to all who took the time to read this and those who took the time to offer suggestions, I really do appreciate it.
But anyway, one more thing that keeps coming up: they keep interrupting me to ask me to whitelist them. Could they be playing around with how their pages work on my machine? Could they intentionally be messing with me because I use an ad blocker?
What are the ethics of ad blockers? They ask me real nice and polite to whitelist them but jeeze, the ads are overwhelming...
Here is who "they" are https://gizmodo.com https://deadspin.com https://jalopnik.com https://jezebel.com https://splinternews.com
there are a few others, if you open one of them you will find them all.
Thanks
@morganf You've enabled the extensions sidebar, just disable it. Ctrl + Shift + S (or the equivalent on Mac) should do the trick as well as Menu > extensions > uncheck extensions sidebar.
@leocg It is a server issue in a way, but only insofar as those servers seem to use some sort of geo blocking. As I said: From Berlin, one of those urls can be reached, but (in my case) only with proxies set the way described. And it definitely is a browser issue, since I can open it with safari, but not with Opera.
Does anyone have a solution I am dealing with the same thing. Pretty sure it's not a zooming issue as I've zoomed in and it makes it look weird in a different way. Any help would be appreciated!

i have the same problem since several months/versions. cant tell exactly when because i dont use soundcloud much. but sometimes it is important. so, does s.o. have a solution in the meantime? does opera look after this?
