  I tried with Chrome too and it worked just fine for me. Also tried with Internet Explorer 11 and worked (hardly). However, what I'm trying to say is that the problem is not from Opera's compatibility.

  I'm not sure of Opera 22 Next, so am speaking from the context of Opera 21 (the last stable version of Opera) which I use. If it works for you, then super.

  Of course you can do control D (if you can remember it 🙂 but there are other ways also, that it's quite good to know, and which are easier to remember.

  First, I'm not aware of a way to change the extension icons on the toolbar. On adding bookmarks, it's no problem in Opera 21.

  You can also drag the icon from the page you are on (all the way to the left of the address bar) to the bookmarks bar. Or drag the thumbnail of a site you saved to the Speed dial to the bookmarks bar. And a very good Opera extension is: Add Bookmark. https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/add-bookmark/?display=en

  It will give you a star in the address bar (right side). (It's also supposed to give you a star in the context menu when you right click on an empty space on a web page (but that's being worked on for an update) (Still the star in the address bar is useful. I use this extension all the time. When you make a bookmark with the extension, "Add Bookmark," it lets you rather seamlessly immediately select the folder you want to put it in. (Making a bookmark with Control D doesn't do that). And the dragging from the address bar icon or the speed dial takes a drop more time). So "Add Bookmark" is good.

  Hope this helps. There's enough through these alternative methods to easily make the bookmarks you need (at least in Opera 21 :). When you're using Next, you're on the new frontier, taking (smile) chances . . .

  Got it. Thanks, Burnout.
  I started checking it out, but didn't get around to achieving a thorough look around. For some reason, maybe because of that slide show ... SOMETHING in that website gives my computer a brutal workout. After 5 or so minutes, my computer reaches 84 to 96% CPU usage. Yikes! And one or both fans in my computer are operating at seemingly beyond Max speed with a freakin' Jet engine sound that I was expecting my computer to lift off any second.

  I tried it around 3 times, but I wound up having to abort every time and close the Tab for fear of one or both fans flying off the side of my computer.

  My Dial Up was probably a factor. But, still, no other website or task has ever given my computer such a brutal workout. Odd.

  I have the ports set correctly

  It should be port 465 ot 587 with TLS checked for the outgoing server and port 993 + TLS for IMAP or port 995 + TLS for POP for the incoming server. Is that what you have?

  login info is also correct

  On the servers tab in the account's properties, retype the username and password just for good measure. The server may require that your username is your email address. If so, the @... part needs to be included in the username.

  Besides that, do you have anti-virus with an email scanner? If so, turn the email scanner off to test if it works then.

  Maybe the log will be more specific on what's wrong.

  Download and install Thunderbird and setup your account in it. Take note exactly of the settings. Then, use those settings (and ports etc.) in Opera.

  I'm not agreed that Opera needs a lot more functions in it's basic browser to match others. It needs some, I think, -- like a good bookmarks manager importer and exporter. I would not try, though, to match features, as that's a bottomless pit, and goes against what I believe to be the idea -- keeping the browser lean and fast, and to leave the features for the extensions. When Opera 17 (Blink) was compared against Firefox, IE and Chrome, it did extremely well:

Since then Opera have switched from using their own "Presto" rendering engine to instead using the same engine as Chrome. Whilst this change has been received with mixed reviews by Opera users, with some unhappy that many of Opera's original features were dropped, our tests results actually show that the "new" Opera is a browser to be reckoned with outperforming Internet Explorer 11, Firefox 25, and Safari 5 in our tests. (Of course, we are now at Opera 21 as the last stable version).

  And by the way, Firefox was crawling. On page load time, non-cached mode: Opera 17 (3.526 seconds), Firefox (11.091 seconds). On page load time from cache: Opera 17 (1.685 seconds), Firefox (5.179 seconds). Maybe 🙂 too many features made it a tortoise.

  I'm not saying there can't be some additions to the basic Opera blink browser, though the bulk of the extra functionality should come via extension. I'm not worried about Opera needing to play a lot of catch-up. They're varooooom, fast. Even Secretariat might have ended up lapped by this browsing demon. It's the others -- feature heavy -- who will need to fear being left behind. 🙂

  Although possible, there shouldn't be any difference with Opera Mail between WinXP and Win7.

  Did you move your mail folder from WinXP to Win7? If so, there might have been some file corruption where it was exposed when you moved/copied the mail files.

  Run a database check for starters.

  Also, click the wrenchicon on the mail panel toolbar and reset the mail panel to defaults. Then, click the "settings for this viw" icon on the toolbar above the "All Messages/Unread" message list and make sure "show trash" isn't checked.

  Is this an IMAP or POP account?

  Jumping the gun as you didn't give an example site that does this and a pic of what the error page looks like and what it says, but the following is good to check:

  For good measure, check the time, date, timezone and daylight savings time settings on your computer to make sure they're correct.

  In Opera, goto "Menu -> extensions" and disable your extensions to see if the problem goes away.

  Also in Opera, goto "Menu -> settings -> browser" and click "change proxy settings" under the network section. Then, click "LAN" settings and make sure Windows isn't set to use a proxy (unless you know it's supposed to be).

  Also, in the Windows control panel, goto "Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center" and click "change adapter settings". Then, right-click on the connection you're currently using and goto "properties". Then, select TCP ipv4 and click "properties". On the general tab, make sure "obtain automatically" is set for both "ip" and "DNS" (unless you know they shouldn't be). Do the same for ipv6. And, if you're using a router, you'll want to log into it and make sure its DNS and ip settings are set to automatic/dynamically unless you know they shouldn't be.

  Then, open "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts" with a text editor and make sure there are no active (as in, not commented out) entries. Or, if there are, make sure there's only 127.0.0.1 localhost (and maybe ::1 localhost).

  If any of those are not right, check them each time you restart Windows.

  Then, download anti-spyware and anti-virus to check your system for nasties.

  I don't see a way to add images to posts in this forum. I will try to explain more details.
  In Windows 7, I open the Control Panel and go to Personalization / Window Color, which brings up the "Window Color and Appearance" settings.
  Any changes I apply to these to these settings affect every program I have open except the new Opera (21.0.1432.67).
  For a simple example, select "Scrollbar" and increase the "Size" setting to something much larger, like from 20 to 50. The vertical scrollbar in Opera does not change. In every other program, the scrollbar becomes very wide and easier to grab with the mouse pointer.

  This comment only mentions the text scaling. Does this imply that the Opera team is still working on correcting all of the window appearance settings?
