If I add a bookmark to Opera on my laptop, how quickly should that sync to my desktop? Both always connected to the internet and always running.

It depends. Sometimes it syncs in a few minutes, sometimes it may take hours.

Should the speeddials on each machine be the same?

They don't share the profile folder and therefore user data and preferences.

You can also install 32 in a different folder só they won't share the installation folder.

Whether they are using Ctrl+D, the Heart menu or right clicking the page and clicking bookmark it should bring up the save dialog that allows you to pick the folder you want to put it in as well as other handy things (like the undo button).

Getting this message a lot, that Silverlight will soon not be supported in Opera on many web pages.

Afaik not even Microsoft supports it anymore. 🙂

What will this mean for us Opera users?

Chromium ha dropped support for npapi plugins and all Chromium based browsers will lost support for those plugins sooner or later.
At the moment Opera is being able to (re)enable those plugins but nodbody knows for how long.

As said, once the support is fully gone, pages using those plugins will not work.
New tab search or speed dial takes 10 seconds

Well I disabled AdGuard and LastPass and it appears to have fixed the problem.

Now re-enable one at a time to check which one is to be blamed. I would bet in AdGuard.
Where are advanced settings? (to adjust download behavior for specific file types)

all I can do under the "downloads" header is set one download location for all files. No file type specific download locations, no file type program associations.

There aren't such options.

The settings are the ones your are seeing in the settings page. You can enable the power user settings to get a couple of new ones.
Popups: Any way of ridding ourselves of these constant annoyances?

I mean popup ads that block the page. They are often a little transparent. The only way to get rid of them is click the X at the upper right hand corner. Sometimes ESC works too but often not. That would be a little faster for those that are more keyboard oriented.

Those are mainly flash based pop-ups. You may need to block plugins or uninstall flash to get rid of them.
Can I choose where the Bookmarks location is? Can't find it in Settings.

Anybody know where this Profile is in XP and Opera 32?

See Menu > About Opera for the path.

Couldn't find it in DocumentsandSettings/Application Data/myusername/Opera/Opera_Stable

This is most probably your profile folder.

Bookmarks is in there several times.

There should be only one Bookmarks files plus Bookmarks.bak and BookmarksExtras.
Any way of using Alt_D in Full Screen?

Found some extensions. Installed one and F6 is supposed to activate the address bar in full screen. Like so often with extensions, it doesn't work. There is no icon anywhere with settings of course.

It is possible with command line arguments placed inside the Opera shortcut. Research the command line switches used with Google Chrome. Opera uses basically the same ones.

Steve, still it is in the Control Panel: like "Programs install&remove" (no know how in English), there are four tabs there - the last (bottom) it is.

12.17, Win 8.1. https://thepiratebay.vg/, is returning "Unable to complete secure transaction" with Opera 12.17, but loads with Opera 33.

The piratebay uses the Cloudflare's free SSL ceritificate that do not support Opera browser.

If you are using a hosts files you are probably pointing the IP address to loopback right? That means its pointing at your machine as the 'host' of those sites. Well, make it a host! Put up your own HTML page on the machine and make it look like whatever you want.

So only bookmarks will be synced between devices and an "on-line backup" will be created for Speed dials? I fail to see the logic in the design... Well this is rather unfortunate, thank you for the information

It's not consistent, but it may be logical. A user might want a different configuration of Speed Dials on a phone than on a desktop, for instance. It's possible to import Speed Dials from one device to another, though Other speed dials; but it adds more steps.
