Nothing, it just stopped working, like dozens of others also experience.

I just tried Opera Portable and it works. As some reported doing a restoration works, there must be something in the profile that causes this, but not due to a user error or something that changed on the user side (besides the Opera update).

The console from Developer Toolbar only shows

GET https://www.netflix.com/ 500 (Internal Server Error)

The Network tab shows just 17 requests, the only error being the status 500 of the main GET.

Doing a Clear in the Application tab under Storage should suffice, but apparently there's something else somewhere. Having to restore the browser is an overkill solution. I'd much rather just use another browser (or Opera Portable) until it's solved.

I'd agree, but this is not the case. I disabled all extensions and it's still occurring. In my case, it happens with Opera One 138.0.6044.24.
At first the page the screen remained black and loaded forever. Then I removed all the application's storage data with the Developer Toolbar and now I get the same screen shown above, with the NSES-500 error code.

That post on Reddit has 45 upvotes... Some claim that doing a recovery in opera://update worked, although that logs you out of everything and a few reported that didn't work at all.

@geebsrilie: You can by using the developer toolbar. You have to right click on the image, inspect it, find the url in the img tag right above the selected div in the Elements tab, and click on it. The image will open in a new tab and there you can use Google Lens.

The date format is typically handled by the web site, and it should use either the system format, or else one determined (i.e. "forced") by the very site.

Just to be clear: does the site load fine with any other browser on the same computer? What about a private window? Or Opera Portable (installed in a standalone folder)?
Are you using any VPN or special DNS servers?

@Inquiro Did you try disabling the #history-redesign flag? I've done that a few weeks ago and it works fine so far.

@Franz5157 All bookmarks are stored in C:\Users\<your_user>\AppData\Roaming\Opera Software\Opera Stable\Default\Bookmarks (extensionless file), and the Speed Dial ones (I guess that's what you meant) is under the speedDial section in that file (JSON format). If you deleted it and don't have a backup or never synchronized it... I'd say your last hope if finding a Bookmarks.bak file in that Default folder.

@cchcyx463 I did some tests but I couldn't find a way to change the popup positions besides dragging it with the mouse. The position is stored somewhere but I couldn't find it.
I tried disabling and re-enabling it but the position wasn't reset.

Changing the browser window size didn't help. Did you at some point change the screen resolution or the font size in Windows to something like 125% or 150%? Or maybe did you use dual monitors?

If you open a private window, the popup should appear at the bottom right corner. If that works, it's just a matter of finding the window in some screen border or deleting the saved coordinates.

When I try to upload a picture, I get the ribbon at the bottom with recent images. If I open the full file browser, clicking on the file works just fine. The only way to make it do what you explain, is if I right click on the file and instead of the default Select I go to Open.

Does it happen on any other site? Or maybe are you dropping the file on the browser's tab?

Which site exactly? Sometimes sites use another domain for authentication so it might appear under a different url.
Is it autocompleting the login textboxes?

Sorry to revive this thread, but as it's still failing here, is by chance your timezone UTC or UTC+? Because the date bug in the classic History happened only with negative timezones, as I discovered here:

Another option I often use: do a search in WhatsApp, maybe you sent the link to someone.
BTW, I "chat" with my own number to temporarily store some important stuff, or to easily pass info between the computer and the phone.

The core of the matter seems to me not the remedy but the cause. Sometimes (or regularly) a new window is opened in Opera without the user knowing. In that case one window, the open and known one, contains x tabs ( x being some to a lot) and the other, invisible and unknown, contains only one tab. When the user closes the window he knows (no warning), the until then unknown and invisible new window appears. Now you have to be alert, prepared and aware you have lost your work and closing this new window maybe makes it worse, you have to know how to proceed. This went well until last week. I don't know exactly what went wrong. There is some (short)key on the right of the keyboard that by touching by accident made this happen.

Sorry to reopen this old post, but this happened to me last night. I had like 8 tabs, and when I closed it for tomorrow, I had a forgotten popup window from a Hotmail email. And like zauberfritz explained, as this was the last window, Opera used it as the "last session", so today I thought I had lost all those tabs.

Fortunately, while checking opera://history, under "Recently closed", I found my window with the 8 tabs and was able to get them back. I just wanted to comment this in case someone in the future finds themselves in the same situation.

Another possible fix would be that Opera keeps track of "child" windows, that is, popups generated from another window. So either the popup is closed when the parent window is closed, or simply the popup is never saved.

Same thing has been happening to me recently. Not exactly sure what's casusing it but feels like a cookies problem. Tried to enable 3rd-party cookies to see if it resolves this issue but Opera never saves the setting I choose for it. Keeps reverting back to disable 3rd-party cookies.

I stopped having this issue for some months now, luckily.

I don't think a cookies issue would stop a page from loading. Does a private window have the same issue?

@aleksr2 Kaspersky is known to cause issues like that. If you have it, to test if it's the cause, you have to temporarily uninstall it (disabling it isn't enough). Some system-wide VPNs can cause the issue too. In those cases, you also have to uninstall them and not just disable them to test if they're the cause or not. All of those can sometimes affect just Opera and not Chrome.

That's interesting. I also have Kaspersky and of course I tried disabling it, which didn't help, but I also tried a standalone portable Opera instance, and it worked just fine! So I assumed it was something related to my installation or profile.

Anyway, I think it's been several days since the last time I had this issue, so maybe either Opera or Kaspersky got updated and this "duo" now works fine? I'll keep my fingers crossed...

My Opera started having this ugly behavior a few weeks ago. A few times every couple of hours, when clicking something in a web page, it just keeps loading forever, or perhaps the home page itself never finishes loading at all.
Sometimes stopping and reloading the page works, sometimes a new tab does, and sometimes an incognito window does.
At first I thought it was my ISP, but then I tried other browsers and they work just fine.
Unfortunately it's not easy to replicate: it's like if at some point Opera just gets tired and doesn't want to load anything for several seconds.
I disabled the very few extensions I have but the problem remains.

Is anyone else experiencing this?
