@n4i75irhc1371 said in The High CPU/RAM/GPU Usage Topic - Opera for Desktops:
Some heavy pages sometimes start eating a lot of RAM and CPU here, mostly Facebook pages with videos. With Shift-ESC you can quickly see which page is the culprit. Closing that page alone solves the issue. And often reloading the same page in a new tab doesn't produce the problem again.
And regarding the RAM usage on your computer, you should go to the Details tab, right click on any column header, select columns and add the "Memory - Commit Size" column. In my experience that's the most realistic value, and a high number there will make your computer crawl. Order by that column and see what you find.
I'm not sure if this can be of help, but have in mind that the clipboard can have multiple types of contents. Take for example Excel. If you copy a group of cells, you can paste the text content into Notepad, but also paste a screenshot of those in Paint, having done just one Ctrl-C.
So it looks like in your case the text might have been copied to the clipboard but the image stayed, and the target app used the image content. Did you by chance try to paste afterwards in something like Notepad (where of course images can't be inserted)?
Another thought: some pages have Javascript limitation to copying stuff, I recall experiencing doing Ctrl-X and still having the previous text in the clipboard. I think the key here is exact reproduction steps, maybe related to a specific site.
@albertop Github is clearly not updated, they might have changed the repository. The extension says:
Last update: Dec. 3, 2021
2012 was a different "world", Disconnect would have stopped working much earlier if it hadn't been updated since.
@didad38 And......... why don't you try any other site to see if there's a problem with it? There are sites which have Javascript code that clears the fields.
@didad38 What about other sites? I tried that one and I get a certificate error (only valid for remote.*), not sure if that could be related to the problem.
Your screenshot means you deleted the credentials and they were successfully saved again later?
@magicalus Wow, and it only happened with Opera?? Could you fix it now?
If, for example, you take a screenshot, does it also have the issue?
@magicalus Do you mean that text or images appear blurry or pixelated? I'm not sure if I understand...
Could it be related to this?

@cyberkaz said in not capable of copying url:
"If you select a part of the url and cut it, does it disappear and is it copied to the clipboard?" yup disappears, but nothing in clipboard
This is very weird. And I assume it's the only software where this occurs? And what if you do the same in a web site's textbox, like in Google, or this very forum?
@cyberkaz said in not capable of copying url:
we highlight the url from left to right, right click "copy" and that goes to the clipboard ok!
Manually highlighting works?? That's weirder.
I would try with a standalone portable installation to see what happens there. Do you have any extension installed? You could also try an incognito window.
@cyberkaz What does it exactly do? Copy an empty text? Not copy anything into the clipboard? If you select a part of the url and cut it, does it disappear and is it copied to the clipboard? If you right-click on the url and directly choose Copy (without manually selecting any text), does it make any difference?

@alobpreis said in The page redirected you too many times:
@hucker Why would so many sites have random redirections? Usually you have none, or one at most (unless there is a login involved). I'd open the Developer Toolbar and check the Network tab to see what's going on.
With your site, it just redirected once to the /home url.(...) And of course a login is involved, people tend to login to Ebay!
@hucker I was referring to web sites in general, not a specific one. And of course you can use any of the mentioned sites without logging in. Does it only happen to you on sites where you are logged in, and try to access a private url?
As soon as it happens, if you reload the page, it works or does it fail again?
If it fails, check what I mentioned above in the Developer Toolbar. Or also you could still check it to see how many redirections occur.
Do you use the same sites in other browser and they work fine there?
Another option is to try with a private window or a portable installation, to try to find what's causing this. How often does this happen?

@mrmufa5a I can't tell you why this happens, but what I did notice is that if you download the first two, the file is a .webp one (which might be a lossless image like PNG, or just with better compression), and the Opera one is a jpg, with clearly not the best compression rate. So basically that's why you see the blurry red text: jpg compression.
Now, why Opera goes that path, I have no clue. But for sure, there's no need to play with drivers or antivirus.
PS: This post reminded me of this other one, and -oh surprise-, it's yours too.

Using Opera maximized, users often use mouse in simplified way - move cursor to top of the screen (you don't need precise muscle movement for this) and hit tabs or buttons. Tabs can be switched this way, search and window buttons too - but new tab button is not clickable at top of screen.
As a matter of fact, there's a setting to remove the upper space above the tabs for this exact same reason: with Opera maximized, if you have that space you can't change tabs by clicking on that line: you need to go down a few pixels. Exact same thing now happens with the + button.
I was able to watch the video from my computer. It's a flashing red dot over the page's favicon.
Does this happen only with Opera? Can this be reproduced with a public Disney+ page? I tried the home page and it doesn't happen.
@hucker can you provide a sample site where this happens?
@hucker Same issue reported here:
From my comment there: I guess the reasoning is that if the webmaster is careful enough to enable HSTS, they would also be responsible enough to not let the certificate expire.
@xavell Is that arrow the point where the page crashed?
Can you try causing the error again, having Opera's task manager open as well as the Developer Toolbar, to see how much RAM the tab uses and if you get any message in the Console?
If you are sure it started with that specific version, you can try downloading a portable instance of a previous version to confirm it doesn't fail there. If it doesn't, just in case also try a portable instance of the most recent one.
@mike88 I'm also not having any issues with the installed version, it updates smoothly, I don't know what could be wrong in your case. You can try uninstalling and reinstalling.
About which version to download from that link, you should probably get the Opera_##.#.####.##_Setup_x64.exe
one, unless you have an old 32 bit CPU (rare nowadays), for which you will need Opera_##.#.####.##_Setup.exe
. As you can see from your link, .sha256sum
files are just 64 bytes long, and they only contain the checksum of the corresponding file.
About Virus Total, only a few lesser known antivirus, plus Malwarebytes, detect something by using heuristics, maybe because of the download behavior. False positives are common so you should take them with a grain of salt. The offline installer gets 0 detections.
BTW, @leocg's response was perfectly fine, if you scroll down that page, you will find the offline installer links, which will take the proper version. Please, be kind.
@cratte I don't think you can change that, it's the common behavior of any textbox. You need a second click to unselect and place the cursor somewhere, or press left or right arrow.
