Missing X buttons on Tabs/Riders

@myswtest
The OP's comment and the subsequent comments pertained to use of the current version on tablets specifically MS Surface Pro. Not computer where the primary input device is a mouse or pen.As a MS Surface Pro and Opera user the deletion of the close via touch function is a nonsensical change which diminishes the useability of Opera on tablets and other touch devices. But seeing how there has been zero response from the development team nor any change that I can see in 102 beta or 103 developer versions, I guess they don't care about Windows tablets users.

@myswtest As Robteejr states, there is no way to hover for me on a tablet, so I don't have the X available. I have moved on since then to Vivaldi. I may come back at some point but right now I consider Opera 'inoperable' on a Windows tablet.

I have the same problem on my surface in the end my solution was to switch, but since i wanted to keep opera i just went to the opera gx gaming browser which still has the nice clickable -even on touchscreen- x-button.

@malahovv This sucks, I use a convertible laptop and if this is not fixed I'll be uninstalling the browser. I mean how can such a popular brand come up with stupid updates without even considering people browsing on touch devices! It's annoying af

@myswtest Not even sure if Opera is seeing this, people are putting these up and no one is batting an eye. Forums might be as stupid as the update of removing close tab icon.
People who came up with this really did over think! -

What going on with Opera? First remove the home button. Now hidden the close tab button that effect window tablet user. UX manager should responsible for this nonsense update !!!

@hey008 and @PranayChaturvedi ...
My perception is this is mostly a user to user forum, although there are active Moderators.
If it is so, the development team is not watching these threads.
There are a couple of active "feedback" threads going on, which might be where the dev team is getting feedback from.
But yea, I understand, taking away features that are well known and expected of all browsers is thoughtless.

Some good news for touch users. Opera 103 Beta has added the X back to the tab island. So 103 Stable should resolve this issue.

I understand that you're having trouble closing tabs on Opera 100 on your Surface 6 Pro. This is a known issue with Opera 100 on tablets. The tab closing buttons have been removed from the browser on tablets, and there is no way to hover to close a tab.
To close a tab on Opera 100 on your Surface 6 Pro, you can either right-click on the tab and select "Close Tab," or you can use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+W (Windows) or Cmd+W (Mac).

Iโm on Windows from a regular PC, and I donโt know for which devices this solved it, but version 106 of stable Opera is coming soon, and Iโm still going through a test that takes my time to correctly hover over a tab so that the button appears and I finally close the tab

Why are the tab-closing buttons missing in Opera 100 on some tablets?
The missing tab-closing buttons in Opera 100 tablets could be due to:
New tablet UI: Opera redesigned the tablet interface, prioritizing space. Gesture controls (swiping) might replace buttons.
Bug or glitch: Some users reported it as a recent issue, suggesting a bug in the update.
Touch keyboard overlap: If using a keyboard, it might temporarily hide buttons. Try minimizing it.Check Opera forums or contact support for official updates and solutions.

It seems like you're facing an issue with the new version of Opera (v100) on your Windows 11 tablet, where the close (x) buttons on the tabs are not visible. This makes it difficult for you to close tabs easily. I have been faced this issue a long time ago!
