General Opera One Feedback Topic

@himmelsheriff First, we could not remove "flow" in the upper right corner. Next day we had an update where it was removed. Whenever I have several tabs open, there is a small x that closes the tab, right where the tab window was. So instead of opening the tab, it would close it.
I had to switch to the gx browser, cause Opera One was/is lagging on Twitch for example. I had both browsers open and while One is lagging, Gx was just fine.
I don't dislike new updates, but this one have several issues. -

@tuneout ok, I see. But those annoyances haven’t happened to me, luckily. Or it‘s because I would use Flow a lot, for example. So no reason to deactivate it.
I understand, that major design overhauls are most likely to stir dissatisfaction. It’s been the same with Firefox and the new Photon(?) design. -

@himmelsheriff The new design has a poor realization. It was not properly tested before release.
Also, after the redesign browser's old features and UX were not properly tested to work well with the new design. -

@andrew84 Well, I agree, it's not overly impressive. But I myself haven't run into major difficulties. But what browser, i.e. browser design would you prefer over Opera then?

@himmelsheriff If you mean visual design only (including dark theme), then Edge looks best to me. But its functionality is limited comparing to Opera.
If speaking about functionality/visual design balance, I prefer Opera <100 version.
I'm not going to update to One version in near future, but I'll keep an eye on developer version to check from time to time if there are some improvements and if user feedback were taken into account.*I'm on Opera 95 version currently. I find it very comfortable for simple daily browsing. If I need some specific things (online banking for example or personal identification) where updated chromium version is need, I use last version of Chrome/Edge.

@andrew84 Thank you for your elaboration. I agree, that Edge has a good design. I'd use it myself if it weren't becoming bloated especially with MS-stuff. It's such a shame, that they've created a real contender to Chrome but have made to a MS-advertising machine, in many ways imitating functions peculiar to Opera or even Vivaldi.
As I don't like MS generally I wouldn't hand my data to them, i'd even prefer to use Chrome then.
I found versions 98 and 99 really lacking, in that way even less reliable for me than O1.
But as I'm still happy halfway with it - no annoyances here, except missing home button - I'll keep staying around. It's hard to find a browser these days which is neither too mainstream nor too niche. So, let's keep an eye on Opera. -

What was lacking in 99 that you now can use in 100?

@vegelund Let‘s say workspaces! I couldn’t open Speed Dial if I hadn‘t opened a tile in the upper primary workspace. Or reload the page in the second Speed Dial. That’s what comes to my mind first.

@vegelund ok, sidebar: With the same amount of icons in the sidebar, I had to scroll to get to the ones on top or down. That wasn‘t peculiar to 98 and 99, but that’s no longer a problem with 100.

@himmelsheriff
I thought Speed Dials (if enabled) are and were by default shown on every tab opened. Why would you need to do anything to open Speed Dial?
What do you mean by "reload the page"?
I have 9 icons on my sidebar, so I've not noticed an issue on availablity.

@vegelund It was about actually opening a tile in the Speed Dial. That would only happen, when a bookmark from the first workspace were opened before.
I was talking about the sidebar on my MacBook Air 13 inches. That wouldn‘t show any icon without scrolling.
There was also another issue that I can‘t remember ATM.
But all these were solved with One. -

@kiny-ohara I confirm!!! After each update, hearing a sound saver is very annoying.

I confirm that there is an awful, annoying, and rather startling sound emitted by the computer after a recent update. Could my computer be in pain, knowing how screwed up this update has made my enjoyment of the Opera browser? I would like to revert back to the older version, but don't know how.

@ammoalamo same here, and because of this and other dumb changes (smiley face rubbish on my start page etc ) im done with opera.
How hard is it to use these rules:
- if you change/add something also put it in settings so users can disable it.
- see rule 1
I know the opera devs think they own my devices but, reality check, you dont and there is so much choice in the browser space that watching them destroy what they have allegedly worked so hard to make and "improve" is actually funny.

Mee tooo.
A bad part about the recent update is I had no chance to refuse it. Also, just to write this comment I had to check off on this: "You must give consent to this site to collect/process your information, and to send you emails." That is needlessly intrusive. But for me the worst thing about the new compared to the old is the new ad-blocker. The old version hardly ever let any ads through on YouTube videos, a favorite pastime of mine. But overnight the ad-blocker started allowing ads on YT every three to five minutes, so every few minutes I have to endure some seconds of annoying stuff, then mouse over a spot and click the ad away.
Is there any way to revert back? Or some way to get rid of the noise and make the YT ad blocking work good again? If not, I'll soon be looking for a better browser.

My personal review of Opera One in July 2023
The Opera browser is as always good-looking and most importantly, works way better than chrome and other chromium browsers and doesnt hang like them. The mobile Opera is always better since it was in java and currently it has features I could hardly find in any other browser.
But that is all good I have to say since Opera isnt keen on upgrading itself with time and users.
What I liked about Opera during my school days weren't same when I am using it for professional purposes.
I hoped with Opera One, things would be different but it is same with a little bit of tweaks in design only where a lot of empty spaces are wasted and crashing as a feature.
Till now, Opera lacks or haven't brought in -
-
Support to sync installed extensions like chrome or brave or Vivaldi or Edge.
-
Vertical tabs (requested brave team since 2021 and they brought it in 2023 for final release and it works amazing).
-
Bookmark structuring and ordering where old bookmarks were on top and new went below but now post 90 version of opera, it is new on top and old at bottom without providing user any control or options to decide which way they want it but now is enforced by Opera.
-
Support for adding new search engines. Opera mobile has 10 search engines out of the box so it is great but when you go to desktop, it has only 3 and one cannot add any new search engine. I talked to a lot of team of search engines and they said, it is opera fault and you should ask Opera to allow you to do so. I even talked to a opera person and they said, they cannot allow another search engine due to lack of money and the money google gives cannot be cancelled (Opera is obviously oblivious to the fact that if you search through google search, google shows to use chrome and I dont know it is pretty easy to jump back to chrome with that popup, same goes with duckduckgo and bing).
-
Support for themes and coloring the browser. I used a lot of other lesser-known browsers like naver whale browser and cococo browser and maxthon browser and they all allow the above mentioned things and provide a color theming from their settings itself, if one doesnt want to install any new themes but opera, alas. Plus all of these browsers are constantly updated so no issues of outdated.
I know this post will not approved since Opera has already blocked on twitter and I have banned from this forum twice before but as a user since 2000, I deserve some respect and words.
I can use Opera but when others are providing me control over what I can do with my browser then why should I jump and stay with Opera when support is also not supportive?

@forestworker90 You can add how many search engines you want, you just can't set them as the default one.
