      Hi there,

I'm changing to Brave browser, because the keyword blocker (blocking sites containing specific keywords) in Opera is extremely slow. The browser freezes, opening a site takes up to 3 minutes, it's absolutely impossible!

Can this be fixed in Opera please?
If this gets fixed in the future, I will likely return using this browser, but for now impossible.

      Will this be looked into?

      Best,
      Sebastian

@sebastianjungle What keyword blocker? As far as I know, Opera doesn't have anything like that.

@leocg I am talking about the "content filter" extension by lidrekon.
When you enable the keyword blocking Opera becomes 10 to 20 times slower, even almost freezes totally.

Without a functioning content filter I will stick with Brave.
I had no slow downs whatsoever in Chrome and Opera when using content filter and site blocker extensions. None.

So if this will be fixed, I will come back to Opera.

@leocg about your link: well exactly! It says you cannot use the extensions without slow down!

@sebastianjungle What the extension author says about it? Maybe it's something that they should/could fix on their side?

Did you try using the Chrome version of the extension? Or it's the one you are using already?

@leocg No the extensions are not identical, I used the "Blocksite" extension for Chrome/Brave.
lidrekon is Russian which makes communication impossible:
                  https://lidrekon.ru/block/

Alright, Opera isn't for me then.
                  Thanks.

Also, I have seen that you modified the title.
Can you please correct it accurately to:
"Please add a functioning keyword blocker to Opera browser"

Opera is being advertised everywhere as the browser that can do everything, and even more!
And then I was very disappointed to find out that even something as basic as a functioning key word blocker extension is not available.

Should this be added to Opera, I will reconsider using it again.

As requested, title and scope of the topic changed from a report about an issue with a keyword blocker extension to a feature request to add a native keyword blocker in Opera.

It's not a basic feature, most browsers don't have it.

Thank you for the title change.

All the main browsers I know have a functioning keyword blocker extension (Chrome, Brave, Microsoft Edge)

@sebastianjungle You are asking for a native feature, that other browsers don't have.

If you just want an extension for it, you can ask in the add-ons section of the forum or just look for one in Opera's or Chrome's extensions stores.

@leocg Thank you for moving the topic to "Suggestions". I do not request a native keyword blocker. Just a keyword blocker at all that works!
Opera does not have other content filter extensions, so I installed the one from Chrome "Block Site".
However it does not fully function the way it does in Chrome:
it blocks domains containing filters, but not google/bing searches.

So since I'm not allowed to ask for a content filter extension, can the Opera team please look to make the Block Site extension fully functional the way it works on Chrome? So that researches in search engines containing keywords get blocked as well, the way they do in Chrome?
Since my settings are the same, I assume it is Opera related? Or do I need to give an extension special permissions in Opera?

@sebastianjungle And you can ask for a content filter extension, you just need to do it in the proper place.

                                    @leocg Awesome, that works!
Had to set it in the extension Details:
                                    alt text

Alright, since this is working after all, a new extension for Opera is not necessary anymore.

Maybe a more suited title for this thread could be now:
"How to run a working content filter extension in Opera (without slowing down)?"

For anyone who has the same question, the steps were:
1.) Get the "Block Site" app from the Chrome web store, not the Opera store.
2.) Enable access to search page results in the "Block Site" extension details.

Thank you for the help leocg!
