Why does Opera need internet for clearing cache?

@0p3ra-us3r Just unplugged the cable, went to Menu > History > Clear Browsing Data > Selected the cache option and it seem to have worked. At least I didn't get any error message.

I clear it under settings, too. "Clear data"
The area "Cookies and site data" cannot calculate the data size without internet. You have to close and start Opera and with no internet you cannot clear it.

It's me again. The size information seems only to be in the mobile app. I tried Opera for Windows again and there is a windows where you can select what to delete and which period. When you start Opera without internet connection you can press the button to clear everything but the round "it's running" symbol just spins and nothing happens.
As soon you have internet it works when you press this button.

That's strange. I tested it on different PCs with different Windows versions and different Opera versions. The problem always occurred.
And of course in the mobile app.Maybe there is someone else who could try to reproduce it.

Cannot confirm on Win11. Clearing cache or all items works fine if I start Opera without internet.
Does this happen in a standalone installation also?
Opera you using Opera Sync?

Hi, I used a portable version of Opera but I installed a completely new copy today in W10 and it had the same problem.
I don't use sync yet.
I tested Opera, Opera Beta, Opera Developer
Systems: Windows 7, Windows 10, Android -

@0p3ra-us3r
Can this behavior depend on "Help improve Opera by sending feature usage information" check in settings? Most old users have this unchecked, in new installs it is checked by default. -

Hello everyone
It seems the problem only occurs when the internal Opera-VPN is enabled.
Before the cache is cleared Opera tries to connect to the VPN. Of course this does not succeed without internet access and therefore clearing the cache does not work.

@0p3ra-us3r Opera was able to confirm this and bug DNA-98138 was filed for this. Thanks.
