@tiikuri I would also like this to be fixed as I find having any sort of messaging application active there too invasive. I just use the sidebar because it's the fastest way to access my bookmarks. Opera, please fix this 😞

I toggle off the 'Enable notification badges for messengers' but it repeatedly gets turned back on.
I have all the messenger apps unchecked in sidebar setup, but they turn back on at least every couple of days. This is happening with Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp, not the others.
I do not even have a Whatsapp account, don't need it, don't want it.. so why it keeps launching I have no clue.
FB Messenger is the worst offender, if I want to see messages I will log into Twitbook and check them, I do not need it invading my life at any other time.
Is there a way to rip them out completely?

Re: Messengers keep reappearing in the sidebar

I still have a similar problem as the post above, it's not just Messenger but also Telegram for me. This never happened before on my old PC but now keep happening on my new one. I'm using Opera GX.

Necroposting, but I am having a similar problem. I keep hiding Facebook Messenger from my sidebar, but a few times per day, it keeps readding itself to the sidebar. Smh, can't believe this is a problem.

@acousticjamm For me this stopped at some point. I don't remember if i did something specific. But they still haven't fixed it, if it happened to you now. Might even be intentional promotion of these social companies. Wouldn't surprise me, because Opera is kind of terrible nowadays.

This has happened to me each of the last three days. I don't use Facebook or Facebook Messenger, so I'm not signed into the service. Each time I remove it from the sidebar, I check to see if it's enabled, and it's not. So a service that is disabled is adding itself to my sidebar. It's this type of sketchy behavior that caused me to ditch Facebook in the first place tbh.

I am new to the Opera browser. I've been using it for about a week. What's App and Facebook Messenger keep auto activating. I don't have accounts with these services.

Judging by how long this seems to have been a problem, and Opera's lack of response, I assume Opera is being paid to subtly promote the services. Which really sucks. I'm going to keep looking into it. If Opera is doing that though I'll go back to Firefox as fast as I can hit the uninstall button.

I'm new to opera, I've never been to facebook (don't have an account) but like everyone else messenger keeps adding itself back to my sidebar. Not expecting a fix just adding to the list of people who are having this happen, will be switching browsers if it keeps happening.
