@adam-broda I have been complaining about this for ages. It is one of the primary reasons I use Opera so little now.
If I was not so in love with the Workspaces I would have stopped using Opera completely because of this ridiculous 'forcing' the messengers section on us.

RE: Whatsapp and Facebook messenger keep activating themselves.Opera GX
Same, same, same.
I use Opera less and less because this crap pops up multiple times a day, no matter how many times I 'turn it off' - if I cannot make it stop, I don't want any part of it.. if I did not send stuff to Flow from my phone for later reading I won't use Opera at all anymore and this crap is the reason. -
[Duplicated]Messengers still in sidebar and unremovableOpera for Windows
Every so often I install Opera and check.
I love the sidebar, I want Opera for the Workspaces, it goes so well with the way I work.
Sadly, the sidebar still comes with all these Messengers and no way to make them go away.
Turn them off you say? Yea, sure, I have done that a million times it feels like.. they come right back! So, as happens every time, I have lost patience yet again with this garbage. Telegram and FB both turned themselves on again today. I have not even used them on this computer. Yet here they are..
As soon as I finish whining here I will be uninstalling Opera again, maybe I'll check back next year, but I doubt the devs give a crap, they seem to like it so I am sure, if I even bother, I won't use it for more than 3-4 days again next january..
So long folks.

RE: Removing Amazon AssistOpera for Windows
@kcdc3298 said in Amazon Assist:
How can I delete Amazon Assist from Opera.... It's annoying as hell
kc
I ran across an old thread, and this works.. go to the extension store, install the assistant, then you can uninstall and it takes the built in garbage with it.
Yet another sign that the devs do not care what we want, if they like it they will force it on Opera users.. -

RE: Permanently disable amazon extensionOpera for computers
@bert22 This worked, thank you. One of the reasons I rarely use Opera is junk like this.. hopefully it doesn't come back. Now if I could just get rid of the Social Media crap so easily

RE: Why does Facebook Messenger start up by itself?Opera for Windows
@bon90 - thanks, but I've moved on to Vivaldi, the folks at Opera refuse to address an issue that obviously many people find extremely annoying, so if they don't care about their user base, then i don't care to use their browser.
No skin off their nose, none off mine. -

RE: Turn off Messenger Section of SidebarSuggestions and feature requests
@andrew84 - ah, yes, that would be even handier - I use pretty much everything else, so had not thought that wide.
If the messengers would behave as they should I wouldn't really mind, but since they seem to turn on whenever they feel like it I need them gone.I'm currently tweaking out Vivaldi to see if the Tab Stacks suit my needs and how the browser performs. It may be that I won't have to worry about Messengers at all very soon. I may miss certain other aspects of Opera, but I'll be able to focus better on the tasks at hand without interruptions and that is the primary goal.

Turn off Messenger Section of SidebarSuggestions and feature requests
I can go into Sidebar setup and turn off Workspaces (which I love and would never turn off) - why cannot I not turn off the entire Messengers section the same way? That is the single most irritating section of the Sidebar for me.
I do not use it, never have, never will. I have them all unchecked, yet they continuously turn themselves back on and pop out to bug the hell out of me as they feel like it. None of them are logged in to anything, it's not like I am even receiving messages, it just pops open as if it wants me to use it.I know otehrs are begging for more and more to be added to that section, but I find it a horrible distraction to my reading of whatever I need at the time.. I want to focus on what I am working on, not be bothered by other apps.

RE: Messengers keep reappearing in the sidebarOpera for Windows
I toggle off the 'Enable notification badges for messengers' but it repeatedly gets turned back on.
I have all the messenger apps unchecked in sidebar setup, but they turn back on at least every couple of days. This is happening with Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp, not the others.
I do not even have a Whatsapp account, don't need it, don't want it.. so why it keeps launching I have no clue.
FB Messenger is the worst offender, if I want to see messages I will log into Twitbook and check them, I do not need it invading my life at any other time.
Is there a way to rip them out completely?
